Victorian Winter
Footprints carry the echo
of a land once walked before,
while horses' hooves and carriages
reveal the road once travelled.
Children play joyfully,
wrapped in warm clothes and black boots,
bringing again that certain stillness
of a day and time, not easily forgotten.
Passers by seem to overshadow
a line of trees with their tallness,
especially with their well-structured walking lines
and with their long coats and tall hats.
The buildings too, echo the day,
with snow covered rooftops and chimney pots,
while small windows keep out the wind
of this chilly winters day.
