Thrown Food Items |
| Method |
Foods such as dead mice, chicks,
and small fish are thrown into the enclosure near to the animals, and are generally caught
in mid-air, or chased to where they land. |
| Species |
White Stork, Night Heron, Ibis,
Pelican. |
| Purpose |
Ensures individual birds all get
some of the choice items, and is additionally stimulating for both the birds
and the public because food is caught while moving (albeit artificially). |
| Pro |
Food can be directed to certain
birds, allowing dietary supplements and medicines to be added to the food for specific
individuals. |
| Con |
Time consuming if used for a large
number of animals. |
