The practices outlined in this section relate to methods of food presentation that do not require the use of special materials or devices. Scatter feeds, use of specific locations, and methods of ensuring that specific animals receive required medications and dietary supplements are dealt with.

| Method | Large, leafy tree branches, mainly willow, freshly cut and put into the enclosure. | |
| Species | Chimpanzee, Gorilla, Monkeys, Parrots, Hoof-Stock. | |
| Purpose | Food to be eaten, manipulatory object for apes and parrots. Used by chimpanzees in displays, and to make into tools for use with maze feeders and other puzzles. | |
| Pro | Readily available except in winter. | |
| Con | Can be time consuming to collect. Substances from some plants and trees are poisonous, so should be careful which are used. | |
| Improvements | Attach branches to the top of cages to make obtaining leaves easier, and allowing adoption of arboreal feeding postures. | |
| Comments | Should be careful of using large branches in open-top primate enclosures, as they may provide a means of escape. Long branches should not be used with Langurs or other Colobines, as large strips of peeled bark can cause gut impaction. | |
