Food Log
The feeding methods outlined in this section require prior preparation in terms of making devices for use by the animals, including items that must be opened or manipulated to obtain food, frames to hold food items, and containers that randomly release food such as insects.

| Method | Thick log with holes 2-3 cm wide by 6-12 cm deep drilled along length, mounted onto wall or hung from ceiling. Holes are filled with food - nuts, celery sticks, mange tout, baby corn (for primates), raisins, dates, nuts (for parrots). | |

| Purpose | Sturdy puzzle feeder, requiring co-ordination and balance, particularly when suspended from the ceiling by a chain. | |
| Pro | Difficult to destroy. Simulates natural foraging technique of probing holes in trees. | |
| Con | Very easy to obtain food from unless the feeder is hung in a difficult to reach area. Small holes are time consuming to fill. | |
| Improvements | Holes can be covered by a strip of barked wood that must be pushed aside to gain access. | |
| Comments | Keep device away from windows. By leaving bark on, looks more natural to the public. | |
