Individual Methods for Feeding
Methods - Devices
Corrugated Cardboard Squares
The feeding methods outlined in this section
require prior preparation in terms of making devices for use by the animals, including
items that must be opened or manipulated to obtain food, frames to hold food items, and
containers that randomly release food such as insects.
Corrugated Cardboard Squares |
| Method |
If the cardboard is dropped into a
tank of mealworms, they will crawl into the corrugations. Monkeys will then rip open the
cardboard to get to the mealworms. |
| Species |
Most Monkeys, particularly
White-faced Saki. |
| Purpose |
Promote foraging behaviour as a
simulation of peeling back bark to reveal insects and grubs underneath. |
| Pro |
Requires no preparation time -
just leave it and come back later. |
| Con |
Public often think the monkeys are
eating the cardboard. |
