Individual Methods for Feeding

Cored Cabbage or Melon
The feeding methods outlined in this section
require prior preparation in terms of making devices for use by the animals, including
items that must be opened or manipulated to obtain food, frames to hold food items, and
containers that randomly release food such as insects.
Cored Cabbage or Melon |

Large hole bored with apple corer,
item threaded onto a rope. Several (1-2 cm wide) holes bored around it and filled with
nuts, dried fruits and mealworms. Feeder is normally hung from the ceiling. |

| Purpose |
Stimulates foraging activity, and
encourages development of balancing skills and arboreal feeding posture and foraging
skills. Animal will generally eat the feeder once treats are finished. |

Cabbage is not eaten by some
monkeys, and therefore wasted. |
| Improvements |
Use honey, peanut butter or
circles from the cabbage core as a bung to keep loose items inside holes. Lemurs find this
item easier if the cabbage is left on the ground. |
