Individual Methods for
Enclosure Design
Water Sprinklers
The methods outlined in this section relate to features of enclosure construction and layout which may be used to enhance the living conditions of animals, including the use of shelter areas, vegetation, viewing platforms and climbing structures.

| Purpose | Increase humidity and lower temperature to help keep the birds cool during the summer to prevent heat stress, and to provide a mobile source of interest. | |
| Pro | Easy method of keeping the penguins cool. | |
| Con | Must check to ensure that young chicks do not become waterlogged and cold if left exposed on the nest. | |
| Improvements | Set up enough sprinklers so that the whole enclosure can be reached by them. | |
| Comments | King Penguins prefer a fine mist spray, but have chosen a nesting area which is out of reach of the mist sprayers in the enclosure. | |
