Underground
Tunnels |
| Method |
A 20 foot long underground pipe
connects the indoor and outdoor enclosures, running through a holding box so animals can
be caught. Small tunnels are also located in the indoor and outdoor areas. |
| Species |
Meerkat. |
| Purpose |
To simulate the natural tunnel
systems used by Meerkats, while dissuading them from attempting to dig their way out of
the enclosures. |
| Pro |
-- |
| Con |
Tunnels are almost impossible to
clean as there is no way to access them, and are at risk of becoming flooded in wet
weather. |
| Improvements |
-- |
| Comments |
Smooth ceramic pipes should not be
used, as the animals would find it difficult to gain purchase on the sides of the pipe. |
| Frequency
of Use |
