Individual Methods for
Enclosure Design
Rocks and Tree Stumps
The methods outlined in this section relate to
features of enclosure construction and layout which may be used to enhance the living
conditions of animals, including the use of shelter areas, vegetation, viewing platforms
and climbing structures.
Rocks and Tree
Stumps |
| Method |
Large natural structures, arranged
in the enclosure to create a more three-dimensional layout. |
| Species |
Birds, Meerkat, Cats. |
| Purpose |
Provide natural, solid, raised
perches, and may also be used for screening and shelter. |
| Pro |
Provide a naturalistic look to the
enclosures. Tree stumps attract insects, which become a mobile source of interest that may
be foraged for by the inhabitants. |
| Con |
Rocks and tree stumps can be heavy
to move around. |
| Improvements |
Moving the rocks and stumps around
alters the three-dimensional layout of the enclosure. |
