A Light-hearted Look
There is a Glasgow Gang Show institution that, up until now, not many people knew about which covers each and every Glasgow show since 1936, when the first one was performed at the Alhambra Theatre.
They were both Scoutmasters in the 173rd Scout Troop in Dennistoun, when John decided to start the Log to keep a record of the Troop's activities and notable events.
John and Mike were very gifted artistically and between them they created a virtual masterpiece within its richly coloured and humorously illustrated pages.
The inspiration for the Gang Show history came to Mike around 1958 when he came across an old programme for the 1939 Show and became intrigued about the four pre-war shows. After fairly intensive research involving Charles 'Lindy' Linstrum and various other Gang Show stalwarts of the day, John and Mike were able to start their Gang Show 'chronicle' from the very first show in 1936.
The pages listed below give you an idea of the grandeur and beauty of each of the illustrations.
Surprisingly each year's entry only took a few days to complete, which when you consider the amount of detail and information included makes this fact all the more remarkable.
The inspiration for most of the pages, nowadays, comes mainly from the Gang Show Souvenir Programme but in days gone by, being members of the cast gave John and Mike all the inspiration they ever needed.
