Abington C.C. A.G.M. 2000 No blood on the carpet, but perhaps a few spilt beers as it was "all change" in the captaincy stakes. Geoff Tear stood down as first team skipper after doing his prodigal son impersonation. His apologies for not being able to make the meeting shortened proceedings by an estimated 38 minutes as those present were spared his legendary captain's reports which are usually of epic proportions (in duration if not in content). .His place was taken by the far more reserved but equally well respected Richard Ward, a batsmen with exemplary grace and technique and occasional spin bowler. After pioneering and guiding the Second XI through their formative years Andy Marston handed over the reins to rookie Jamie Simms. In his first season at the club, Jamie proved himself to be an explosive all rounder, we all hope that he can bring the high standards he has set himself to his captaincy. To complete the clean sweep Ian Withers also stepped own as Friendly skipper before he took root in the position. Our South African import Fenton Griffiths ably stepped in on a number of occasions last season and now has the title to go with it. The collecting tin also changed hands as the inscrutable Chris Earl took the bung from Duncan White who had looked after the accounts for the last couple of years These changes apart the meeting was pretty routine with out sheet anchor (on and off the crease) Geoff Jeyes remaining as Hon Secretary. The meeting was the shortest recorded for a number of years, thanks Geoff (Tear).
