Once you have downloaded the browser and installed it you will be asked to input a nickname and an email address. Once in Active worlds you will land in a world called The Gate.
The Gate is monitored by a group of people called the Gatekeepers who will appear using bold dark text. They can answer your questions but I would personally advise for you to look down your world list, which should appear on the left of your screen (or press F1 to bring the tabs up) then when you see AW , double click that and you will land in another world that is a bit quieter and less confusing.
You have to register to become a member and that is $69.95 a year or you can pay it monthly.
Let it download - which means there are many objects which have to download before you can see anything. Keep still and be patient whilst this happens.Once downloaded, they remain in your cache so they won't have to be downloaded again
Once there, go and explore but remember whenever you enter a new world, let the worlds' objects and images load
When you register in this manner, you will automatically receive a free one-week trial citizenship. After one week, your credit card will be charged $6.95, and again each month after that unless you cancel your subscription online However, you can still enjoy Activeworlds as a "tourist", also.
Some worlds you cannot enter as a tourist but there are many you can and here is a list of them
I co-own a world that is tourist enabled and that is called Rumours so feel free to drop by and say a hello- my user name in Activeworlds is GolderUK. There are many worlds you can tour and explore so have fun! Remember you can always call a peacekeeper if you encounter any problems and our names are here:
