Bonkers About Batteries

Round Five

Things went a bit quiet for a few weeks on the wierd batteries front. Then it all kicked off again with a vengeance. Johnny 5 and The Spinmeister have been especially diligent in their efforts. The Wastemeister has also weighed in with a couple of scintillating finds, and a real gem came in from John Harrison ("Johnny English" to his workmates, apparently!).

For work, The Spinmeister has recently been "out on the road" at various Barnardos project offices around the country. This has provided him with ample opportunity to seek out unusual batteries both in hotels and at the projects. So, enough intro, here's the pic.

"Hey!" goes up the cry, "Eveready is a commonplace brand!" True. But look closer.......

What we see here tells a story. The Spinmeister has shown real dedication to the cause. He has taken on the road with him a pack of Eveready AAA batteries (and a pack of AA's too), so that he can swap with any rarities. Quelle homme! (That's French for "What a geezer!"). Ladies & gentlemen, please be upstanding for "CHINEFINE" batteries!

The Gobmeister would now like to reprise a previously featured brand, but this time the "Heavy Duty" and "SUPER HEAVY DUTY" versions (at least one of which is thanks to Johnny 5). Hat's off again folks to "Golden Power"!

After considerable deliberation, The Gobmeister has decided that he will include this next one, purely on the grounds that he's not seen it before himself, although it may be familiar to some of you (especially if you frequent Wilkinson stores).

That's "Power+", a Wilko brand, with The Gobmeister's apologies for the rather sub-standard photo.

Next up, a brand spotted by The Gobmeister on a recent trip to Amsterdam with his beloved wife. The trip was mostly memorable for the wrong reasons, but some little consolation was provided by this discovery in the flea market:

Now it's "thank you" and "well done" to our paramedic friend John Harrison for this next gift. Found in the remote control to his new DVD player were these delightfully named cells:

Honestly! Where on earth do they dream these names up from? Take this next one for example, discovered by Johnny 5 while on holiday in Somerset (pronounced in the local dialect: "Zummerzet"). Is it supposed to be some bizarre West Country contraction of "Green is here"?

Next up, in a rather attractive livery of yellow, black, and maroon, this pair found in the remote control of a DVD player at a Barnardos project. Courtesy of The Spinmeister of course:

A couple of superb offerings now from Weymouth's illustrious "Wastemeister". He's not sure where Aarron found these, but The Gobmeister's hat is well and truly off to these two:

To wrap up this fifth round of "Bonkers About Batteries" we say another "thank you" to Johnny 5 for spotting, and springing coin-of-the-realm (£1.99) for this card of beauties from a local pharmacy - a mere five minutes walk from GobFM Manor!

DYNAMIC INDEED !
