Bonkers About Batteries

Round Fourteen

As it's been so long since the last update, The Gobmeister is delighted to bring an awesome bumper round this time, and it all kicks off with a text message from Spinmeister Rob: "I have a new bonkers battery. It is an own brand, but the shop no longer exists!"

Intriguing, eh? Any guesses anyone? Have a think. Have a guess, and then click on the grey rectangle below to reveal the battery!

CLUE: They were the high street answer to our electronic needs for many years.
They disappeared from our town centres a good few years ago now though.

If the battery does not appear when you click on the panel above,
then click this link instead.

Good find Rob! Next up, and totally out of the blue, this email arrived in The Gobmeister's inbox from a complete stranger:

Subject: Batteries

I have got a Pairdeer Zhongyin AAA battery which is a different design from the one featured on your web site. Would you like me to send it to you? Jessica Gregory

To which The Gobmeister replied:

Hi Jessica,

many thanks for your email. What a pleasant surprise. How did you encounter the GobFM website? Did you just stumble across it while you were looking for something else, or did someone tell you about it?

If you like you can just email me a photo of your battery if you have the means - also some information on where you found the battery would be nice (e.g. did it come with a remote control or with a torch, or what?). I await your reply with baited breath (or is that just from the lasagne I've just eaten?).

Hope you are having a good week.

Gob bless,

The Gobmeister.

Jessica's reply contained the following info & pictures:

Believe it or not, I typed "Pairdeer Zhongyin" into Google... :)
It came in a torch that I bought at the supermarket for 99p. I use the torch to walk home from the pub at night (there are no street lights here!)

Enjoy,

Jessica Gregory

OK, so not a totally new brand, but "Bravo!" to Jessica for getting in on the action, and as you can see from the links above, she has a couple of websites of her own that you might want to check out!

Next we say "Thank you and well done" to Mrs.Gobmeister for spotting these in a cheapo shop in Romford:

With it being so long between updates, The Gobmeister does not always recall who found which batteries and where, so apologies go out to anyone who feels they have not received their due credit. Or to put it another way: E & O E (Errors and Omissions Excepted).

Anyway, here's a bunch of beauties for you!

The Gobmeister believes credit for this one belongs to The Spinmeister.

OK, time to pause for breath. Now, when The Gobmeister said it's "an awesome bumper round this time" he was not making an idle boast! Because now we have a change of pace. We are talking a three-for-one deal here! Hold on tight, here we go...........

Mrs.Gobmeister is responsible for finding this next brand. It was located in the base of a singing fluffy electronic Scottish Terrier (no, really!), which was brought round by the book man where she works. Here is her photo of the underside of said wee-beastie:

sunpadow.jpg 205x207

Now, before you all start saying "Is that it? One picture; three batteries; all the same?" The Gobmeister would like to point out that this is just the prelude to the affair. Because, you see, The Gobmeister thought he'd follow the example of a certain Jessica Gregory (see above) and type the name "Sunpadow" into an internet search engine. As a result of which he found:

Here are the pictures:

sunpadow2.jpg 200x200 top_fuli.jpg 200x200 3_circles.jpg 200x200

"Hey!" you might be saying, "finding them on the internet is cheating!!" Quite so, dear friends, quite so. However, the race is now on to be first to find them "in the wild"!!!

GET OUT THERE!

Having recognised the potential value of internet searches in the quest, this next brand, found "in the wild" by Johnny 5 (probably), yielded a different kind of bonus. Picture first, bonus second:

ponenlie2.jpg 225x83

Ponenlie?! Superb! The "bonus" comes in the form of some self-promotional blurb found on the manufacturer's website. The Gobmeister feels confident that you will agree that it more than amply qualifies for inclusion in the "Foreigners Attempting English" section. Here it is, unedited. Just straight copy & paste:

Guangdong Nanhai Hongjin Battery Factory

Company Introduction

Guangdong Nanhai Hongjin Battery Factory which have specialized in manufacture of Carbon Zinc&Alkaline batteries and nickel cadmium charge and new-style flashlight. Our brand Is "SUPOWER, PONENLIE ". It has a scale of over 15000 square and have more three hundred workers, and produce 5 hundred million power battery yearly. Our products have been exported all over the world and have enjoyed high reputation with cheaper price and good quality, honest service. If you have any inquiry about batteries, pls feel free contact us, we will try our best to meet your requirements. We sincerely hope to establish direct business with you.

Errrrrrr........., WHAT?

OK, six more to go for this round. Starting with a triplet of "repeats" (i.e. new varieties / formats of previously featured brands) from Golfmeister Nigel:

hw3.jpg 224x75 golden_power_pp3.jpg 245x136 gassner2.jpg 206x56

The Golfmeister also gets a share of the credit for this next offering, about which he reports: the "Huaad" came from Disneyland Paris courtesy of the Eiffel Tower that Katie brought us back as a pressie.

huaad.jpg 320x88 eiffel.jpg 136x297

Nice one! Well done again to Katie / Nigel.
Katie is turning out to be one of our top battery finders lately!

Our penultimate offering for Round 14 came with a torch which The Gobmeister bought The Spinmeister as a birthday / moving house present. Rather satisfyingly, it bears one of those marvellous self-important warnings often found on batteries.

starcell.jpg 257x133 starcell2.jpg 246x133

Misuse may cause explosion or personal injury.

CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED!

And finally! Last and by no means least, we have an excellent first entry from "Bonkers About Batteries" newbie, kick-ass dentist, and all round good egg, Guy "Dr.Teeth" Simmons. His email read thus:

Hi Graham,

I told you I was on the lookout for batteries!

The first thing I did when my daughter got an MP3 player for her birthday was to see what battery it had. Sweet joy, a battery that does not appear to be on your site!!

Here's a photo...if you want more or better, please let me know.

Cheers,

Guy

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, please be upstanding for. . . . . . . . . . t a   d a a a a a . . . . . . Tinko!
