A slow but steady stream of new batteries has continued in the months since Round Nine was posted. The Gobmeister feels that, other than giving special credit where due, a respectful silence is the only appropriate response for many of these.
Our first palindrome?
A pound well spent by The Gobmeister, and "Thank you" to Orford's of Corringham.
Another great find in Orford's of Corringham.
Maybe not one for diabetics...
.....chalk up another two points for our hugely enthusiastic
"Bonkers about Batteries Baptist" (Reverend Steve Peake) for those two - he fetched the second one back from the far flung shores of The Canary Islands!
Credit for this next one goes to "Bonkers About Batteries" newbie Roger Whipp (formerly a Police Officer with the Met, now an Itinerant Evangelist). An "assist" credit goes to Steve Peake for introducing Roger to the game. Well done chaps!
Here are a couple of interesting finds from Johnny 5. Firstly, this unusual "half AA" 3.6V Lithium cell (non-rechargeable of course - otherwise it would have been disqualified).....,
.....and secondly, a brand we've featured before, but in a hitherto unseen livery:
On the subject of new liveries of previously featured brands (which for the time being The Gobmeister is prepared to tolerate), here are three more. The first is courtesy of Johnny 5's Mum (Lyn), the second is from Mrs.Gobmeister (it came with her new alarm clock), and the third is from Ed Pearce:
Speaking of Ed, The Gobmeister has to report that Mr.Pearce has been keeping his powder dry. In fact we suspect that he has been keeping his powder under a vast array of industrial drying machines, on a bed of pumice, in the middle of the Sahara Desert! Yes, The Gobmeister understands that Ed has been harbouring this next battery for several months, simply so that he could present it to The Gobmeister in person. And who can blame him? Yes folks, hats off to those geniuses at the Chongqing Wanguang Power Co., Ltd.. !!!
In Round Nine we featured a pair "Cegasa" batteries. These were thought to be genuine rarities from abroad. However, shortly afterwards, The Gobmeister spotted this brand in quantity, on sale in B&Q! He suspects that B&Q may have been spying on this website! (On the other hand, Cegasa may have bought out Rayovac - 'cos that's what B&Q used to stock in quantity).
Apologies for the slightly dodgy pic (camera phone job)
Foolishly, Johnny 5 thought The Gobmeister would deign to let this interloper slip through the net into the realm of Bonkers Batteries. However, The Gobmeister was obliged to respond in the following manner:
No ....... for the following 7 reasons:
1. I've seen them already myself in a remote control at the vicarage.
2. Ikea is a store brand name.
3. I hate Ikea.
4. Varta is a well known maker of batteries.
5. I hate Ikea.
6. Ikea is a four-letter word.
7. I hate Ikea.
I think he got the message.
Here endeth Round Ten, but don't forget, keep checking those remote controls, kiddies toys, cheapo shops, and transistor radios for hitherto undiscovered gems. Happy hunting!
