Target Switching

Switching targets?

This is actually quite a simple thing which most players might do anyway once they're into the game, but I thought I'd give it an article anyway. Basically, it's a method of saving ammo and using your firepower efficiently when changing to target something else.

The Method

  • When firing at an object, if you think there's enough ammo fired to take down the unit or building, switch your fire to the next target and let the remaining ammo take care of it.
  • If you are going to switch to a target which not all of your selected units can reach yet, you can switch early and your units should take down the structure as they pass. This is particularly useful if you have a number of units selected which are dotted about enemy buildings, as the units with further to travel may get a few shots on the damaged target before they get to the new position.
  • When using electo-cannons, one of the most important features is that you can shock (temporarily disable), the units and buildings as you damage them. Since they can't fire in this state, you can move on to another target. Note that you may have to hit once or twice more to keep it shocked for any length of time, and remember to watch the electronics indicator for the unit or structure recovering.

Judging

There is a bit of skill in judging if another round will finish a target off - and much of this comes from experience of seeing how long things take to blow up :) If you misjudge, however, switching back to take the target down shouldn't cost you much time, and you may only select one or two units of the main force to do this. Hopefully in the long run you'll end up doing more damage at every opportunity you get in the enemy's base.
