Towards the end of 2005 I was looking around for a new project.
For some time I've had an interest in the weather and how it is
measured and now seemed like a good time to take a closer look. An
early Xmas present in the form of a La
Crosse Technology WS2300
automatic weather station, was the starting point. Take a look at
the sections below to find out more about the station, the changes
I've made and the software I use and have written.
Live Weather Station
Click
here to see a live display of the current data
from the weather station. You will need a reasonably modern browser for this
display to operate correctly. If you would like to learn more about how this
display is generated, see the software section below.

Graphs of Weather Data
Click
here to view graphs
of the data gathered by the station since it was installed. A number of
different styles and sizes are available.
|
Weather Station Hardware
Click
here to find details of the actual weather station
hardware, how it has been installed, the problems I've seen and the
modifications I've made.
|
Weather Station Software
Click
here to find out more about the software used to operate
the weather station. The software used with the station has to perform a number
of functions: capture the data from the device, perform smoothing and data
reduction, store it, and create both the real time display and the graphs used
by this web site. I've used a number of Open Source projects along with my own
software to do this.
