The Barn Experience
It seems a strange thing to do to amass a
group of similar thinking people, transport them to a remote semi-deserted barn
in the dark of night. But that is what happened in rural village in
Hertfordshire 16-Sep-2006. Strange
indeed when you understand the locals do not venture near the place, especially
after dark. Ghost Hunting is not new and these days not that rare, more popular
than ever with the craze of television programs on the subject. So amongst rumours of unexplained noises and
shapes in dark corners, stories of an
old murder, our intrepid team of brave souls set out to investigate.
Most of the team had previous experienced in
Paranormal Investigations, so
scary places were nothing new to them. But as they say it is amazing what
you can get used to. The Team itself consisted of one
"Medium ", two "Sensitive 's" and four Investigators. For the purpose of this report the medium
lady will only be referenced as "The Medium" non of the people
present will be named"
The night started after dark at 20:00 with the investigators taking readings
with "EMF" meters Temperature readers and baseline photographs. The Medium had a walk round, and sensed men
working in a metal works factory
Heavy metal equipment furnaces and Greece from chains and said
"We are in an old barn on a rural farm in Hertfordshire but I was not
going
to say anything" She sensed the people that worked there, and
thought they may be active here, and she sensed a girl, but did not see a
connection
The barn itself was approximately 30' square with a small 10' square room
attached at the back. It is mostly
brick built to half its height and has wooden sides and roof, all appeared to
be in good order. The barn as it is now
appears to of been modified from a previous building as the brickwork
would appear to be considerably older that the wooden sections.
In the barn was a straw covered uneven concrete floor, with a multitude of
items long since abandoned car from 30 years ago, a scooter recently put there
for want of storage, straw bails, and old gas cylinders presumably empty. The
small-attached room was full of items related to auto mechanics
of similar period to that of the car, and a couple of work benches which had
both seen better days
Add to that the inhabitants of the barn mostly with eight legs whom were
well established in their abode I think they probably caused as much of a
stir with the ladies as anything else that night.
May I add here all of which were large and very much alive!
In the centre of the barn was a large heavy wooden flat table, which would
suit our purpose very well; if were a dinning table it would seat 10 people
easily. We placed around it makeshift
chairs to seat all seven of us
The stage was now set and we were ready to begin.
It was a warm September Evening/Night with no wind outside, shirtsleeves or
thin jumpers were all that were required.
We walked around the barn familiarizing ourselves with our home for the
night, then sat quietly for a few moments taking in the atmosphere.
At about 21:00 we placed glass on the table, with the help of our Medium we
went through the protection and grounding routines, as beliefs differ on
this subject it is best not elaborate.

We place the tip of our fingers on the edge of the glass and concentrated
our energies, asking out for a presence to show itself. Straight away the
Medium felt a spirit was close, we called out again asking the spirit to come
closer, to use our energy to move the glass, to show they are present.
The Glass moved.
The glass moved a clear 6 inches across the table, I watched intently, very
closely trying to see if anyone at the table was moving the glass. It moved
smoothly almost as if it was being controlled from underneath itself,
eliminating the possibility of any of us doing it.
"The sceptic in me could not just accept this on face value"
We started to ask questions Yes/No questions movement denoting Yes
Was the spirit male? "No Response" Was the Spirit female, the glass
moved as before Once again I looked intently at the glass trying to determine
what or who could be doing it. I
noticed that the glass in both cases had moved the same way from my right to
left. The next question it moved vertically in front of me and
subsequently in different directions without any obvious pattern.
This convinced me that no one person could be doing this, either they were
all tricking me or this was for real.
(I am not sure
which concerned me more)
We wanted to know from this female spirit all about her who she was why she
was here how old she was, why she would be in a barn where no living person
would dare to tread.

We established that she died in or about 1960

We were probably not prepared for this and were concerned at where
this was going however we continued.
The next set of questions, were all related to what we had learned. Memory fails me as to the exact questions we
asked, but it transpired that she was murdered close by and brought to
this barn before being buried elsewhere.
We asked the question did she want our Help? "The glass moved
assertively"
Did she want us to help her move on?
"No
Response"
Was the murderer in the spirit world?
"No
Response"
Was the Murderer still alive?
"The glass moved assertively"
Does he come from this area?
"The glass moved"
Did she know his name?
"The glass
moved"
As before we used the alphabet to get a first and a second name
"Again I cannot state his name here"
At this point we took a break, we need to work out what to do next. What
implications there would be if we did or said anything? For the family of the
victim at the very least, and also the murderer and his family.
"Could this be true?"
When we returned we once again sat at the table, we needed to know what she
wanted us to do. She had asked for help, but we had not found out what help she
wanted. Once again we placed out
fingers on the glass, once again we asked out for a sign of presence. Once again the glass moved.
This time however we had a different spirit, we did try to communicate with
him as before But the answers we got were contradictory or at least misleading,
and therefore will not list it here.
"Others present may not agree with my conclusions"
We asked out for the girl to talk to us again, but it was as if she was
being blocked from talking to us. There was spirit here, we asked out and the
glass would move, only for it to stop without giving us any information.
"We seemed to be being blocked from communication with the spirit
world but
by whom and why?"
The Medium had said all night that there was a spirit standing by the door
to the small room attached to the barn, he had not moved all night,
We put our fingers back on the glass and the medium called the spirit over.
He would not come he would not leave his post as if he was guarding
something She called him over and eventually he came to the table to talk to
us. We asked questions; again I cannot
remember the exact questions
But the results were just as emphatic. This spirit was male and was 29 years
old, he had a sister, younger we believe and he told us his sister were here
physically, buried here in the barn.
His body was found elsewhere. The only demographic information we
received was some initials LW or WL
"Was he and his
sister victims of the same killer?"
This all seemed so incredible to me as if this spirit was leading us on
distracting us from the tale the Girl told us earlier, I was convinced now
that the girls story was what we should be investigating. Once again we tried to contact the girl but
to no avail, the barn now seemed quiet and we ended the vigil at 03:15.
Post Vigil Investigation
We have found out since the vigil a girl called Ann was murdered in 1957
probably in the lane near the barn. Her
body was put in a freezer possibly at the barn and later left in a wood 5 miles
away. The surname we got for her at the
vigil was correct and matched the information in the local papers from that
era. To this date the murder of Ann
remains unsolved.
No evidence of the
other Boy or his sister was found, but having only some possible initials to go
by makes it difficult to check
I believe this site needs to
be fully investigated over a period of time by
a larger team to identify exactly what is happening here, but this does appear
to be a genuinely Haunted place

We have since found out that The Barn during the war was used as a munitions
factory for Spitfire planes
