Frequently Asked Questions!
What is Reiki? Reiki is a Japanese word to describe a hands on healing technique. Its designed to
rebalance and harmonise body, mind and spirit, and is a very relaxing process,
just right for the stresses and strains of modern day living. Since its also
very versatile it can also give you a quick pick you up if necessary as well. In
fact its a treatment tailor made to suit your needs! Many people find they develop a
much more positive attitude to life following Reiki treatments, and book sessions on an
ongoing basis, because they feel it keeps them 'topped up', and more able to cope with
their hectic schedules.
The word Reiki is made up of two words, Rei - meaning consciousness and Ki,
life-force energy. Today there are quite a few different forms of Reiki that
have derived from the original one, 'the Usui system of natural healing'.
What is the Usui System of Reiki? Mikao Usui rediscovered the system of healing in 1922,
which is said to derive from Tibetan Buddhism, although Reiki itself is not a religion.
It is used by people from all walks of life, because its found to be so very effective.
Therefore people across the world all enjoy its benefits no matter what culture or
religious philosophy they come from. In fact animals and even the plant kingdom can
benefit from receiving Reiki as well!
How does Reiki work? You can either receive Reiki from a practitioner, or become
attuned to the energy yourself. This is quite useful, because during the day you
can give yourself a quick top up if your energy is flagging. You can also give
it to your family and friends, or even pets. Reiki can even be used as a kind of
prayer form to send out healing energy to the world, and those people in great need.
What is distant healing? Reiki can be sent out anywhere in the world, so it doesn't
necessarily mean that the recipient needs to be present, although its always
nice to receive a treatment personally. Your practitioner can organise this for you.
Its a very simple and effective process.
Can I train to become a practitioner myself? Training is a very simple, practical process,
with lots of hands on experience! Its quite uncomplicated. There are three degrees
which are generally taken over separate weekends with sufficient space in between
so that you can really integrate what you have already learned. lst. degree enables
you to treat yourself, family and friends; 2nd degree enabling you to work professionally,
and finally Master-Teacher level which allows you to train other people. Whilst
1st degree is generally taken over a weekend, you may also take the course over
five consecutive weekday mornings if this suits you best.

What is the Attunement process? Your Reiki Master-Teacher will attune you to
the Reiki energy as part of your training. The attunement process opens
channels up in your body to receive the Reiki energy. As a practitioner
you then channel this energy to your clients. This is a process which sounds
quite strange to our ears. In the West we may work with both meditation
and guided visualisation to hone our skills, but the outcome is still the same,
to develop our skills as healers.
Can anyone learn? Yes it really is a very simple process! Your intuition
will develop as you continue to train and work with the energy. Initially
you work with set hand positions covering the whole body, but as your
confidence grows so will your intuition, and you will learn to recognise
which areas of the body are in need of particular attention.
Can Reiki do any harm? Reiki energy is one of the basic building blocks of
life, and therefore cannot be harmful. Your practitioner is merely putting
energy back into parts of your body, which may have become depleted. The
energy is not directed by the practitioner, but merely flows straight through
her into the client. In fact the energy is taken up and used as directed by the
body's own consciousness. The energy goes where it is needed most of all.
Sometimes a detoxification process may occur after the session, so that the client may
feel lethargic. This is a sign that things are working through the system.
Drink lots of water to combat this, and try to avoid tea, coffee and other
stimulants as much as possible following a treatment. Generally speaking,
however, most people feel very energised after the treatment
What can be treated with Reiki? Reiki is a very powerful tool and can be used to assist
most things including stress and emotional upheaval, as well as physical upset.
It works well alongside conventional medicine, and and can be used to shorten
healing time, particularly wounds or to aid post-operative recovery. It also lps to
relieve the side effects of chemotherapy. Nonetheless it's not intended as a
replacement for conventional treatment, but to work alongside it..
