About welshem.org.uk
The original site
A very basic website started in 2004 and was rewritten in early 2005.
It was simply a collection of links relevant to the practice of Emergency Medicine, and particularly in Wales.
Although it was written for the Welsh trainees, it was hoped it would be useful to anyone interested in EM, wherever they were.
Essentially the site functioned as a "favourites" list in an easily accessible format, with brief descriptions of the links.
The new site retains all those features.
Links are grouped in different pages (hold the cursor over "Links" in the navigation bar to see the menu).
Each link is white, and hovering the cursor over any external link will display a short explanation of the link by the cursor.
"Syllabus" arranges topics by the CEM syllabus headings.
Each page contains the syllabus contents for that topic and specific links and presentations.
However, there are several new aspects to the site.
"News" collates various news feeds - Welsh health news from HOWIS, BBC health news, BBC news in general and so on.
The five latest headlines from each agency are listed with a brief introduction from which you can link to the full story.
"Blogs" gives the latest posting, in full, from several medical blogs.
If you'd like your blog to be included, do email. And if you're involved in EM in Wales, consider writing your own blog!
"Wales" contains information relevant to training in EM in Wales.
Design
The main window reflects an old form of the Welsh flag, a gold cross on black. The black has been softened to slate grey.
The background reflects the modern Welsh flag, a red dragon on a green and white background. The dragon has been replaced with the website address.
The favicon is St David's cross too.
The site is best viewed with Internet Explorer. Some functions are lost on Safari (Mac).
