SOLO CLUB THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF SOLO CLUBS has over a hundred clubs all over the country designed to bring anyone who finds him/herself alone again, for whatever reason and for single people over the age of 21 years. Solo was formed in 1965 when our founder, now President Mrs. Paula Greaves MBE (Slater) read about a man who had committed suicide after the death of his wife. She knew how he felt as she had lost her husband. Following a write-up in The Birmingham Evening Mail, she was so overwhelmed with replies from people left to face life alone, she realized there was a desperate need for a club where people could go along for a social evening at prices they could afford. The first Solo Club was opened on the 11th December 1965. It is very lonely going on holiday on your own and Solo organize two holidays each year where members from clubs around the country can enjoy a holiday, meet new friends and join in all the activities without feeling left alone. TAMWORTH SOLO CLUB hold their meetings on Sunday evenings at TWO GATES WORKING MENS CLUB 8pm – 11pm. We average around 100 members each week, we are a friendly crowd and welcome new members. We have a lot of activities arranged for the year, our 28th Birthday Dance is on 3rd May 1998 when a buffet will be provided and recently we had a Hot Pork Night which was a great success. Do not sit at home looking at those four walls, come along and join us and make new friends. I can guarantee you will not look back.
