Old Folks PartyTwo Gates W.M.C hold first Christmas Party01st January 1965 - Two Gates W.M.C. held their first Christmas party for the old folks and widows of Two Gates before Christmas when 100 old people sat down to enjoy the turkey tea which had been provided by club members, and arranged by the club's ladies' darts team. The rooms were gaily decorated for the occasion. Each old person received a £1 note and a parcel of groceries, and had their choice of free drinks during the evening. Members raised the money for the party by competitions and a dinner service was given by the secretary raised a large sum. The efforts were so successful that they were able to present Councilor Cyril Wood, the secretary and organiser, with a cheque for £20 towards the Two Gates and Mount Pleasant new year party for old folks in January. Entertainment was provided by George Forbes and his band. |
