100 Amp Split Charging Kit

Have you ever found yourself in the situation where you've been running your 'Mega-Watt' car audio kit without the engine running and found you've flattened your battery and can no longer start the car?

If you have, then this kit is for you.

Do the low bass notes produced by your sub-woofer cause your lights to dim or the wave forms to 'clip' and you've decided that fitting a secondary battery in the boot will cure the problem?

If so, then this kit is for you.

The heart of any split charging kit is the relay (or solenoid) that connects the primary battery and alternator which are located in the engine bay to the secondary battery which is located in the boot. Now, most split charging kits supply a match box sized relay that is only rated at 30 Amps, if you are lucky!

Imagine the following scenarios......

1. You've been running your ICE from your secondary battery so as not to flatten your primary battery, but your secondary is now nearly flat. You start your engine so as to re-charge you secondary battery and WHAM! a massive load is now put on your primary battery as it tries to even out the voltage between your flat secondary and your fully-charged primary. The current transfer from primary to secondary can easily be in excess of 30 Amps. This amount of current exceeds the standard split-charge relays maximum current carrying capabilities.

2. You've got a 1000 Watt ICE system running at full SPL off of your secondary battery. At this sort of current draw the secondary battery will not last long, so you've got the engine running and you're topping up the secondary with the alternator via the split-charge relay. Your amps are drawing around 80 Amps (1000W ÷ 12V = 83A) but that's OK because you've got a 100 Amp alternator, but is it? How is the 80A getting from your alternator to your amps? That's right.... through the split charge relay. This again exceeds the standard split-charge relays maximum current carrying capabilities.

Now for an extra special little something.... Our kit includes a manual/automatic on off switch that allows you to decide if you want the relay ON, OFF or fully AUTOMATIC.

For example... You've flattened you secondary battery and now want to start the car to charge it up. With most split-charge kits, as soon as you turn the ignition key the secondary is connected to the primary. This has the effect on the primary of not only having to turn the starter, but also to supply the massive amount of current that the secondary is asking for. Not good :( The ideal way of doing it would be to turn the split charge-kit OFF until the car is started and when the engine is running, then turn the split-charge kit ON to route current to the flat secondary. Perfect :)


There are no wires included in our kits. This is because the gauge of the wire required is specific to each and every install.

What we do include is a 100 Amp heavy duty zinc-plated solenoid, a  3 position remote switch and fully comprehensive fitting instructions.

The circuit diagram to the right has had some parts obscured to prevent our design being copied.
