Intercooler Pipe work

£195.00 + P&P

The standard intercooler of the Vauxhall/Opel C20LET engine, as fitted to the Calibra and Cavalier, has absolutely woeful performance and is one of the first things to upgrade when thinking about any kind of power increase with these engines.

Problem: The original intercooler is roughly 4 litres in capacity, has plastic end caps and is situated inside the engine bay away from any decent air flow. This was obviously a compromise by Vauxhall and is very inefficient.

Solution: Fit a larger, aluminium intercooler on the outside of the engine bay.

Like this.....

The intercooler pictured above is one from a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 5/6. This particular FMIC (front mount intercooler) was chosen because the engine of the EVO is very similar to the C20LET; a 2.0 litre, 16V, turbocharged, twin cam. But due to its capacity being 13 litres (3 times greater then the original Vauxhall intercooler!) it can handle the boost pressures and associated temperatures of an engine running 400 bhp. More than enough for a modified C20LET!!

In the past fitting a non-standard intercooler was either a bodge job made from all sorts of pipes, bends and joints or the very expensive job of getting an engineering company to make a bespoke set of pipes. This is where we step in....

We can supply a set of stainless steel pipes tailored to fit* an EVO FMIC onto a C20LET at a fraction of the cost of getting an engineering company to make a custom set.

The pipes come as a set of three, either with or without the dump valve (BOV) take-off, in natural stainless steel finish. They can be polished at an extra cost of £10 for each of the pipes. Please note also, that the EVO FMIC and the silicone adapters are not included in the price.

A full fitting guide can be seen here.

WARNING! Anyone who has purchased these pipes between June 2003 and September 2006 please email us on fmicpipes@ubercustoms.co.uk as there may potentially be a problem with the dump valve spigot weld. All pipes since September 2006 are NOT affected.

*The pipes are intentionally made slightly long to accommodate installation differences. So some trimming of the ends may be necessary. It is also recommended that you 'rough up' the ends of the pipes with a hacksaw or coarse file to allow the silicone adapters to grip the stainless pipes.
