City v Wimbledon
Peter Gilbert 11.3.00
Well we have had a couple of
exciting weeks now haven't we.
First of all we go and win the League Cup at Wembley which qualifies
us for Europe. Then we field a very strong team at home to Sunderland
which has a bit of everything in it, and I mean everything.
Then after a long wait we have a strike force that can fire on
all cylinders spearheaded by Collymore and Heskey we score five
goals and are irrepressible. We feel we have taken two strides
forward, then we take 11m. strides backwards as Emile departs
for what he now claims is his 'dream team' ie Liverpool. People
say it's a career move but they haven't won anything for 10 years.
People say he wants to rub shoulders with fellow England internationals
when in fact he'll do well to find an Englishman on the bus.
Oh what pain oh what sorrow.
The bottom line of course is..........if he wants to go wish
him luck and wave him goodbye........well we've done that so
let's forget him...........he's gone.
So it's Wimbledon away, wow that'll be a thriller. It'll be a
test of character though and it'll give us the chance to put
Marshall and Fenton on the bench ready for when Tony Cottee's
calf muscle goes again.
It'll also be a test for Stan Collymore, we'll be able to see
the beginning of his knuckling down to it process.
The rest of the team are getting back together, let's hope they
stay with us, and their match fitness as a complete unit is flowering
nicely. Our midfield is once again looking classy, gritty and
pretty all at the same time. The defence is rock solid and we
should now be making a genuine push to gain at least a top six
place , hopefully at the expense of L*******l, there I told you
I wouldn't mention it again.
Wimbledon are not playing well and it would be yet another two
fingers up to our critics if we can win this one. The media would
of course love to print headlines like 'Deflated Leicester' of
'Money wins nothing' after months of campaigning to turn Emile
away from us. They've achieved that, now let's turn the tables
on them. Don't forget we're already in Europe.
Perhaps we'll get a chance to look at Hartson and his £6m
price tag today.
Wow that'll be exciting.
