Leicester City v Derby County (Preview)
'Pride Comes Before A Fall' ( so they say)
so 'Beware Derby County'
Peter Gilbert - 30.3.00
Certain games at this point of the season should come with a
government health warning: eg 'Supporting Derby County Could
Seriously Damage Your Health.'
Back to Pride Park then, and I think it's our turn to win this
time. We played like a bunch of 'plonkers' when they came to
our place back in December and we lost 1-0 to one of the most
bizarre goals I have ever seen. The ball was punted up the field
and it went bouncing into the goal over everybody's head.Tim
Flowers being the sort of bloke he is, looked at the video and
said 'Well it must have been my fault.' Nice one Tim, that's
what I thought actually. Having said that, he has turned out
to be a brilliant signing and a really good bloke too. I sometimes
have a chat with him before the matches at home. I stand on the
touchline as he's warming up and he gives me a bit of team news,
he's a warm kind hearted sort of soul and I suppose he feels
sorry for me. Little does he know I'm likely to become a billionaire
when I sell this Web Site !!!!!!!!!!
Any road up, how our fortunes have changed; when we last played
the Sheep Fanciers. We were sixth in the league , injuries were
just beginning to take their toll and it was another six league
matches before we won again, although it has to be said we did
have a certain amount of Cup form in between times. December
though was the time when our league form took a real nose dive
( have you seen the graph? It makes interesting reading.
Now though the Rams are in dire straits and they are trying to
keep their chins up to stave off relegation. It would appear
that Sheff Wed and Watford are gonners which means that Derby
or Bradford will be taking the train 'downtown' at the end of
the season.
We should do them no favours, give them no quarter, we don't
need the points like they do but we should show a merciless and
ruthless streak and thrash them. A good thrashing from us would
see Bradford encouraged......we'll see but as I say we're due
a win.
I cannot speak with any conviction about Derby's players as they
all seem so 'anonymous' to me and they clearly warrant the lowly
position they inhabit having relied far too heavily on get rich
quick 'Johnny Foreigner.'
If we can play the way we did against Leeds we'll win the game
handsomely and at the same time inherit some of their less 'committed'
supporters, I use the word 'committed' advisedly.....I know what
I'm saying.......their fans really are a savage bunch. They clearly
hate all things Leicester City and you can guarantee that Stan
will be singled out for mindless abuse.
Speaking of Stan, he was brilliant against Leeds, and looked
to be the complete player we all know he's capable of being.
He was so confident so nonchalant and so cuttingly effective.
Gerry Taggert was outstanding too but he is now carrying an injury
and Matt Elliott's son may still be in hospital which is most
distressing. These points might well leave us very short in the
defensive area especially as Frank Sinclair limped out of the
last game....that only leaves Gilchrist; who is also a good player
but he might feel rather lonely come Sunday afternoon......oh
and don't forget it's a 1.00 pm KO. presumably to allow the hill
folk to get back in time to count their sheep before it get's
dark.
Pride Park is a good new stadium.........pity about the team..........Come
on Leicester........dish it out (it's on Sky you see......get
it?)
