We Owe Them One(At least)
Peter Gilbert 13.1.00
If ever you should feel that life is getting you down, that you
are battling against uneven odds, that you can hardly drag your
tired body through another exhausting day on this planet of ours
then think back to the achievements of Leicester City over the
last four seasons and if you have an ounce of Royal Blue blood
in you then you will be inspired to carry on and you will succeed
in all that you try to do.
We are so privileged to support Leicester City for we are no
flash in the pan, no concoction of mercenary fighters, no world
wide marketing exercise, Oh no!! we are the real thing,
the stuff that dreams are made of but with strong foundations
and loyal support.
The achievements of our team over the last few weeks has been
quite remarkable, we have achieved against all the odds and we
are on the threshold of a dream that will see us rubbing shoulders
with the so called elite. But I repeat - we are the real thing,
we are the bedrock of all that is good in English football and
because of this we will win the day, and survive and move on
and win another day and grow and develop. Can't you just
feel the volcano we are sitting on?
And because of this strength we have, we will be no easy pickings
for any avaricious vultures who are flying in the air looking
for weak stragglers; so think on Chelsea; we'll be coming down
to see you on Saturday and we'll be all fired up and ready for
action fresh from our recent cup successes over London Clubs.
We do not fear this game or any other...........WE ARE LEICESTER
CITY - THE MIGHTY ROYAL BLUES.
Chelsea for me sum up all that is wrong with British football.
They have a glorious past and a strong tradition of producing
fine players from their ranks. But their wheels have come off
the track and they can no longer produce a string of Brits. .
so with wads of City money in their pockets they have spread
a World Wide Web and have trawled in a whole host of foreign
players who's mission is to 'Win Something! Win anything - Just
win something.' They have ex Prime Ministers in the stands and
an ex sports minister' and untold conglomerations of celebs.
who are 'Chelsea Fans' when they're in town. In fact people have
been falling over to support them , it's the place to be seen
these days 'The Bridge.' David Mellor (a dyed in the wool Fulham
fan who must have thought about 'coming out' last night.) even
built a political career on being a Chelsea fan ensuring that
he and John Major always sat together.
But in all honesty they've won nothing of any great distinction
yet with this rag tag army of theirs, they have no foundation
and their fan base is disillusioned with it all.
The other week when they played Southampton they didn't have
a British player travelling on the coach with them, what might
I ask are they contributing to English football?
And so because of what we are and what they are too I hope we
beat them and upset the media circus and the city financiers
and the patronising sycophantic clap trap that emanates from
Millionaire Mellor's well groomed vocal chords.
I hope we beat them for the sake of the man in the street, the
kids on the terraces and the mums with a part time job slaving
away to buy a replica kit somewhere 'Up North.'. Chelsea and
their like are laughing at Joe Public, they're fleecing him,
taking him for a ride.
I'm not going to mention any of their players, suffice to say
they deserve a good thrashing and I hope we give it to them in
a lethal dose and then 'real' football supporters the world over
will laugh into their scarves and pray for the day when the beautiful
game returns and their dreams can be seen, and realised and are
kept burning in their hearts.
