Arsenal FA Cup Round 5     Replay preview

DAVID v GOLIATH ( Take 2)

Peter Gilbert 16.1.00

The big difference this time is that Goliath has shown everyone how big he is and what contempt everyone has for little David.  However David has grown in stature during the course of the last 10 days and Goliath for all his public bragging has shown what a great big whimp he is capable of being if things don't quite go his way.

You can guarantee that Arsenal are still looking disdainfully at this fixture, it's inconvenient for them to have to motor up the M1 to meet up with those pesky foxes again and this attitude (if it exists) could in fact be their undoing.
Our attitude however is beyond question and our achievements during this Millennium back that up. We have shown character by the bucket load and a determination not to be walked all over despite the seemingly difficult ask we face.
It is a great time to be a City fan and we all look forward to the Arsenal replay with relish.
In the last game we never forced their keeper into making a save but in this forthcoming fixture I think The Arsenal will find that we have come a long way in the last ten days and we will be a completely different kettle of fish. Where we had players who were filling in we now have players fighting for a bit of a run in the first team. Where we had positions vacated by the tried and trusted we now have positions being fought over and the right to pull on that Royal Blue shirt.
We have grown in stature since the last meeting and we just might upset the pundits. One thing is for sure the odds won't be 7-1 against us winning.

I assume we'll be having the same match officials as on the last occasion when Mr Riley did all he could to cloud the ludicrous antics of his colleagues the day before by making a string of daft decisions the worst of which was sending Darren Eadie off for not kicking the ball to 'Garlic breath' after he had been awarded a free kick for.............I still don't know what.

If there is any justice in this world we'll win this one. However we all know a thing or two about justice now don't we.

1. Arsenal were formed in 1886 by workers of The Royal Arsenal and were originally called Dial Square. The side changed their name to Royal Arsenal and then Woolwich Reds before settling on Arsenal.
2.They have played in the FA Cup Final on 13 occasions winning the trophy 7 times in 1930, 1936, 1950, 1971, 1979, 1993 and 1998.
3. In 1998 they completed the famous League/FA Cup double for the second time, the first being in 1971.
4. Arsenal Underground Station is the only one to be named after a football team.
It was originally called Gillespie Road but Herbert Chapman had it renamed Arsenal Highbury in October 1932. By February 1934 the suffix had been dropped.
