Let's Hear It For The Good Guys
Peter Gilbert. 12.12.99
We've got a busy week really but as in all good footballing circles
we'll take each game as it comes and first off we've got Leeds
Utd in the League Cup.
We're the latter day darlings in this competition and having just
seen the draw for the 4th round of the FA Cup(Arsenal or Blackpool
away assuming we beat Hereford on EGM Day) then it would be advisable
to stay in love as it is likely to be our most promising route
into Europe next year.
I just get the feeling that MON needs to be in Europe and so do
the players or they might go looking to get themselves involved
with another club who are involved. Leicester City needs the challenge
of a European Campaign to add that missing dimension.
But this is not a time for negativity......no it's a time for
nativity....................... and that means birth, the birth
of Leicester City as a genuine 'force' in football. A star has
settled above our stadium and we are singled out for great things,
let's hope this story doesn't end up with betrayal and crucifixion
at Easter.
Let us also hope that a sort of reverse miracle doesn't happen
to Harry Kewell's legs when he gets in the penalty box as happened
recently against Derby. It was a miracle ultimately because he
got a penalty and his team went back onto the top of the league........basically
it's called cheating and the O'Leary post match interview is called
lying. So for the sake of honesty and integrity we
must beat this lot and beat them good and proper. Let's hear
it for the 'Good Guys.'
We beat Leeds in this competition last season with a penalty and
an Izzett wonder strike after sloppy work at the back had allowed
us to fall behind. It was a close run thing and Leeds are playing
very well this season with enormous slices of luck coming their
way. So we'll have to be up and at 'em from the start, there's
no room for error or misjudgement we must proceed in a forward
direction and go on to win this cup again and get into Europe
and develop and evolve into something worthwhile and give
the fans something to shout about. The Go4 can then be forgotten
along with the bad days and hard times.
Leeds Utd have in fact got a good record in this competition having
won it once in 1968 and being beaten finalists in 1996. So their
record is not as good as ours then.I'll say it again we knocked
hem out of the competition last year, same round same ground.
