Red Doesn’t Suit You Emile !!!!!!!!

10 Things to know about Liverpool FC

1.Liverpool owe their existence to a dispute in 1892 between Everton and the then landlord of Anfield, so Everton left and the landlord formed a new club - Liverpool FC.

2. Yes they’ve won a few things but never The Worthington Cup.

3. We did the double over them last year ( nearly we drew 2-2 at Filbert Street)……our 2-0 win at Anfield was absolute bliss, it was a night match attended by 43,456 people which is why they can afford to buy our best players.

4. They paid £11.5m for one of our best players, a record for us.

5. Red just doesn’t suit you Emile, it’s not your colour at all.

6. Liverpool were the first British Club to have a sponsors name on their shirt when they signed a one year deal with Hitachi.

7. You’ll Never Walk Alone……….what does that mean?

8. They’ve got Germans in their team and I only mention this because I love the way Liverpudlians say Germans.

9. They’ve just beaten Derby 4-0 - ha ha ha ha.

10. Leicester City relish playing at Anfield…….they always have.

Liverpool FC made big strides last season and they are after big honours this year, Champions League placement is imperative to them.

Over the last few years they have sold some big name players e.g. Ince, James, McManaman but manager Gerard Houlier has replaced them admirably and a plenty which is OK but it has taken them some time to gel as a team, plus they have had their share of injuries with Fowler, Hamann and Henchoz and Redknapp being long term casualties.

Owen is injury prone and so Heskey and Camara were acquired to give them that greatest of footballing clichés ‘strength in depth’ and they certainly have that now in buckets full.

Despite all their problems up front their defence is now more resolute and has regained some of that famous Liverpool steel which is vital to their success.

I can remember when Man Utd ‘fans’ were obsessed with Liverpool and their league/Euro success; now the reverse is true and scousers are whinging and whining a lot and calling for Houlier’s head every time they fail to win. The Frenchman however has stood firm, he understands exactly what he’s doing and appears to have a ‘master plan’ that is beginning to bear fruit which is of course a great problem to us.

We visit them at a time when their confidence is high and their appetite is ravenous and insatiable.

They are not however the complete and finished article and they tend to be somewhat erratic but they are very good indeed and they can cope with injuries in any position now - a situation that Peter Taylor is some way off from achieving.

We will be hard pressed to win this one, that is for sure.

However our players looked tired against Man Utd. Many had been away on international duties getting back in the early hours just two days before a big game, whereas Man Utd simply fielded squad 2 which was quite adequate on the day.

Last Match City Player Analysis
Flowers: Premiership player of the month, beaten three times in the last match through no fault of his own.

Rowett: Was his usual steady self but was fully occupied marking Yorke which inhibited our advance play. Had a good chance to score……but missed.

Elliott: Still the best striker in the team, also one of the best defenders in Europe now.

Gilchrist: Adequate as a defender but his distribution lacks imagination.

Davidson: Made a big mistake taking a corner, but otherwise he looked good, he’s a full back though - not a wing back.

Impey: Never got going, but his team mates didn’t bring him into the game often enough.

Savage: His frenetic running was cancelled out by superior organization of Man Utd midfield.

Lennon: He worries me, is he fit? Is he overweight? He’s lost his bite.

Izzett: Made a good start but faded significantly.

Akinbiyi: One good header at goal, lacked support, too much is asked of him.

Eadie: A very lively start but positional changes seemed to throw him and he fizzled out.

Subs:

Guppy: Marked out of the game by Irwin

Cresswell: Showed ‘some’ promise but he’s no better than Akinbiyi, the trouble with our strikers is that they are predictable and one dimensional.
