So...........the real war has turned into the cold war, but on
the pitch the real cold war was the cod war as we had Percy the
Plaice to confront if we were to progress on to the next round
of 'our' cup.
The problem was; how could our superstars manage to win a game
against inferior opposition with the minimum of effort? Answer
- don't pick Muzzy Izzett for England and give him a point to
prove. And prove it he did, in no uncertain manner.
The new moon hung in a clear sky which afforded us a view of the
stars of the universe both on and off the field of play. It was
a lovely night in mid October, with just a hint of a frost in
the air, just the night for a bit of fishing.
City never looked like losing this match, in fact they won it
without ever getting into top gear but they always dominated the
proceedings.
Pressure paid off after half an hour when Impey broke away down
the right. He crossed a beauty at the second attempt
and Izzett met the ball with his head some 15 yards out. His
late arrival into he box shook off any markers and he nodded the
ball home with great ease really for his 8th of the season. He's
on fire - but does Kev know he's English?
We went in at half time 1-0 up thanks to Muzzy's goal and a great
penalty save from Flowers after Oakes had hoiked over Donovan
in the box.
At half time the Birch took his gag off and spoke to us punters
who's hard earned cash actually supports this club, forget everyone
else;We are the (actual) supporters, we are Leicester City plc
(Pure Leicester City)
The second half was not troublesome especially after Emile put
us 2-0 up with another header after a mazy run from Izzett (who
else?) and an accurate left foot cross. We need 3 players in the
England squad.
So a business like evening came to an end for which we are rewarded
with a home leg against Leeds in the next rounds.
We can't wait.
