Wembley Aftermath

Peter Gilbert 29.2.00

Great driving down the M1 surrounded by the Blue Army
Found a good parking spot at MFI, near the main Car Park, only£5 and a very quick getaway.
My favourite fancy dress outfit on the day were: The two Blokes in dresses with Robbie and Savage written on them. One bloke with shaved head dyed fluorescent blue. A couple both dressed as foxes with face paints and costumes.
Steve Walsh and Stan Collymore sat just behind us, Stan smiled at my Mum ( 'he's a lovely bloke'.....not what she said when he played for F****t)
Liked Martin's blue shirt.....I'm going to get one like that.....although it clashed horribly with his suit.
When the players came on the pitch, it was the most dramatic entrance I've ever seen anywhere......ever.
Annoying voice still on the PA.....sounded like he belonged in an Action Man advert, right over the top.
The Wembley toilets alone are sufficient reason to knock the place down.
On the turnstile the ticket collector(female) said Leicester are crap and revealed she was an Arsenal fan......we gave her a hard time.
Being inside Wembley when the balloons and streamers and confetti are let go is like being in a plug hole when the bath water is being let out.Everything spins round and somehow disappears.
The minute's silence for Sir Stan was a beautiful time......76,000 people went as quiet as church mice.
Let's not forget the heroes who didn't play on the day but did vital deeds to get us there: Peguy Arphexad: for his penalty saves. Ian Marshall and Steve Walsh for their goals against Fulham. Stuart Campbell,Graham Fenton and Arnur Gunnlauggson for their penalty taking.
Theo Zagorakis and Phil Gilchrist who played really well in every round.

Matt Elliott you're a star***************thanks to your goal against Villa we got there, and thanks to your goals in the final we won it.
Dave Challiner's throw in's were awesome.
Only the behaviour of John Aldridge threatened to taint the atmosphere.
Martin was very reserved in his suit.
It was the first time we have ever lifted a major trophy at Wembley.
Clinton Hill had to go........a shame though, I hate seeing players sent off especially on such an auspicious occasion.

I enjoyed the sing song afterwards especially 'Simply the Best' but where was 'We are the Champions?'
Walking back over the car park afterwards it was good to see City and Tranmere fans being civil with each other unlike those Tottenham scum bags last year, who really relished the situation for all the wrong reasons.(Where are they now?)
Got in the wrong lane on North Circular Road.....Tranmere car flashed his lights and let me in....thanks pal.
Driving rain on the M1, but still we were welcomed back by fans on the bridges, that's lovely.
Listened to a phone in on the radio.......the spite and venom of London supporters never ceases to appall me.

It was a beautiful day !!!!!!!!!!!!! from start to finish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I hope Tranmere can stay in Div 1.
