Match Preview.
Leicester City v Aston Villa. Filbert Street. 3.00pm. Saturday 25th September, 1999.
Villa in Town.
Peter Gilbert 23.9.99.
I used to be really jealous of Aston Villa, it felt like we were
their reserve side. They had our manager, coaching staff, our
best midfielder and my favourite City player at the time a certain
J.Joachim. But things have shifted somewhat in the last
couple of years.
Brian Little has moved on and is now doing the rounds of Div 1/2
'wannabe' clubs.
Mark Draper can't get in the side, and he certainly wouldn't get
into ours. Simon Grayson failed there, they desperately tried
to buy Steve Walsh from us but good old JJ is still playing like
a diamond, he was their top scorer last season with 16 in all
competitions.
. They have however bought Dion Dublin, whom we couldn't afford
although he was actually born round the corner from Filbert Street.
During recent years we've been a thorn in their side, in fact
I can't remember the last time they beat us. I remember
the furiously hostile reception we gave Brian Little and co. on
their first trip back. Since then we've always
been 'up for it'. I like their manager John
Gregory, he's bright and witty but their Chairman makes Barry
the Hangman look like a presenter off playschool .By comparison.
I suspect it won't be long before JG and AV part company, then
guess who he'll have earmarked for his vacancy, and I'll tell
you what if Martin takes that job it'll show what a desperate
man he is.
Last season they were top of the Premiership for 14 weeks but
it all came tumbling down shortly after they played us. We drew
both our games with the last season.
We should be able to go one better than that this season, and
this week would be a good time for a win methinks.
Villa fans have an annoying nasal accent and they moan constantly
unless they are top of the league, in other words they moan a
great deal. They will strike up conversation though along
the lines of.................................... 'Oi............am
considerably.......reacher................... than yo.' As far
as football clubs go, they are richer than us, they are often
contesting for the very top players. Their ground
can hold 40,000 and more but generally it's half empty as their
fans are trolling about moaning about boring football
But do they worry us? Well they're due a win against
us, but not just yet
Forecast: Home win by a single goal.
