Onwards and Upwards
Leicester City 1 Southampton 0

No-one can beat us so the media scum bag pundits are reduced
to bitching.
'They've played no-one yet!'
'Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal are just around the corner!'
'They've only scored 4 goals.'
The thing is though, these same people, if we had lost, would
be saying things like
There are no easy games in The Premiership.'
'You only need to score 1 more than the opposition.'
Oh well' just ignore the pundits, the fact of the matter is we
will be entertaining Red Star Belgrade and sitting joint top
at the same time, now who else would like to be in that position?
Yeah - we only won 1-0 but we battered Southampton, Peter Taylor
has settled in and the team is only playing half as well as it
can. When Lennon, Izzett and Collymore are fully fit then watch
out whoever you are. Fighting talk indeed but entirely justified
City were soon into their stride in this match with Savage foraging
forward and Guppy teasing the opposition where it hurts with
great crosses, one of which Taggart sent narrowly wide. Impey
headed just wide at full stretch and Savage sent in a 20 yard
shot and got onto the end of an Eadie cross.
The Saints however were fired up too and Flowers had to make
two good saves at full stretch.
Then Savage again went close, Rowett shot across goal and half
time was needed for time to breathe.
In the second half PT played his ace card and brought Stan on
who was soon in the action with a low drive going just wide.
City piled on more and more pressure and in the 66th minute the
inevitable happened when Guppy fired in an in-swinging corner,
which Taggart powered into the net.
Soton staged a late rally and City had to survive a succession
of late corners but they hung on for all the points.
The night before the game PT went out for a meal with his old
pal Glenn Hoddle, the conversation at least must have been very
tasty but the sweetest taste of all must have been some hours
later when the points ended up on the City tray.
Player Performance
Flowers: Is there a more consistent goalkeeper in England?
Rowett: Stirred but not shaken.
Elliott: So reliable, quick feet.
Taggart: Not signed a new contract yet, but pressing his claims
for a good 'un'. ***** Star Man.
Impey: Hard working, seems more confident.
Guppy: Getting back into form now.
Lennon: Getting there in patches.
Izzett: Half a game again.
Savage: Ooh lovely boy!
Akinbiyi: Hard working needs more class in his act.
Eadie: Always a thorn on the opposition's side.
Subs:
Collymore: Came on for Lennon, showed us another dimension.
Gilchrist: Came on for Izzett to stiffen up midfield.
