Chelsea - The Great Implosion
Peter Gilbert 15.9.00
Them
10.Things to know about Chelsea
1. 8 games ago they won the FA Cup.
2. 7 games ago they beat Man Utd at Wembley in The Charity Shield.
3. 1 game ago due to this pathetic form they have sacked their
manager, or rather the players have been to see The Headmaster
and they've squealed. Is this greed which has turned in on
itself? Have they imploded? Vialli spent £20m recently
and was given no chance to work with his investment. Ken Bates
it would appear now believes his own publicity.
4. Their fans chant the name of the sacked manager.
5. Their fans boo the guilty players.
6. They have very few British players in their squad, you can
expect one at most on the pitch.
7. They have so many players in their squad that no-one knows
which team to pick.
8. Chelsea believe it is their RIGHT to beat teams like Leicester
City.
9. Their Chairman loathes the very grass we play upon.
10. They have just appointed Claudio Ranieri and it is his job
to deliver The Premiership Title, The Champions League Trophy
and The FA Cup otherwise he will be removed. You will remember
Ranieri he used to manage Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Napoli,
let's hope he doesn't bring his own French Referee. He has the
pedigree and some say he is on £2.6m for every year of
his three year contract. He can hardly speak English but then
who can at Chelsea? Even Mr Bates speaks Double Dutch
or is it Mumbo Jumbo?
Us
On the other hand we have made the best start for 70 years to
a season. Peter Taylor has settled in and the team is beginning
to show it's true form and potential. Only the fuel crisis can
get in our way.
History tells us however that teams in Chelsea's position, having
made a disappointing start to the season and sacking their manager,
will fight like demons to impress the new regime and this game
will be a real test . If we come out of it with a win the
critics will begin to trip over their own words.
We're playing well now and we will be a match for anyone, the
bigger they come the better at the moment. We will be able to
re-activate our recent feuding on and off the pitch.
On their day Chelsea are more than a match for anyone. They
have class players in every department and if I were to list
their array of talent in every department it might make us feel
overawed and possibly jealous so I won't.
I will just remind you that we were 2-0 down in this fixture
quite recently and a certain Ian Marshall came on and took them
apart. Matt Elliott and Steve Guppy scored two great goals and
within minutes Chelsea fell apart and were very lucky to get
away with a draw.
I sense a classic match on the cards
..I hope
you can get enough fuel to get there
.don't fight
at the pumps
..unless Dennis Wise tries to push in front
of you.
Leicester's Last Match .. Player Analysis
Flowers: I hope I'm right but I thought he looked below
par in his last match . Is he carrying an injury?
Rowett: The more I see this player the more I like him.
He is now beginning to get forward too, a truly great signing.
Elliott: He was brilliant against Red Star, he is now
the complete and finished article.
Taggart: He's signed his contract and is staying. I
recently saw Steve Bull (ex Wolves striker) interviewed and he
considered Gerry to be the most difficult defender to play against.
Impey: He's in favour at the moment, he's experienced
and reliable.
Savage: I am a great fan, he epitomizes Leicester City,
I am proud to have him in my team.
Izzett: Now showing real signs of re-capturing his true
form, he played very well against Red Star.
Lennon: Was Mr Midfield but this season he has struggled
for fitness, when he gets there we will settle down and go up
a gear.
Akinbiyi: Played well when Stan came on, he is not the
player to lead the line and never will be, he will however be
very good at living on scraps, he needs someone very dominant
alongside him.
Eadie: His last game capped a great run of the best football
he has ever played for Leicester City, he is devastating down
the left, cutting in and creating real openings. His speed is
awesome and he would frighten the life out of certain bald headed
Frenchmen I can think of.
Guppy: He had a good game against Red Star, showed good
touches and some great crosses but faded.
Subs:
Collymore: Still coming on in the second half, but he immediately
adds a new dimension to the team. He is class but not fully fit
yet.
Cresswell: I could be harsh and say I'm not convinced
by what I've seen so far but he's going to need a little time.
I'd like to see him AND Akinbiyi up front with Collymore behind
them at the expense of a midfield player.
The Team I'd Pick to Start The Next Game.
Flowers
Rowett Elliott Taggart
Davidson
Izzett Lennon Savage
Eadie
Collymore
Akinbiyi
Subs
Royce. Guppy. Sinclair. Cresswell. Gilchrist.
If this team doesn't score goals by the end of October then we
are going to need a new striker.
