Progress of the ID cards bill
Our representatives in Westminster, including all of the Glasgow Labour MPs, have voted to give the Identity Cards Bill a Third Reading.
The bill is now in its Report Stage in the House of Lords. Peers have already amended the bill to delay the introduction of key parts until the government have provided detailed costings to Parliament. MPs will have an opportunity to vote on any amendments that the Lords make to the bill so it is still not too late to write to them. If you have not yet contacted your MP to inform them of your opposition to ID cards and the National Identity Register, please do so.

Pledge to refuse or resist compulsory registration
If you are prepared to break the law (if enacted) and refuse to register for an ID card and if you can spare £10 then please pledge to refuse along with the 10,000 of us that already have. Please bear in mind that the Identity Cards bill includes provision for civil penalties of £2,500 each time citizens refuse to register. This is not a pledge to be undertaken lightly.
If you are not prepared to risk breaking the law yourself but can spare at least £20 then please pledge to resist and help to increase the size of the legal defence fund from its current £100,000 to over £1.1 million.
