ISBC 2007 I was very honoured and privileged to be asked to judge
the Males at this prestigious show and I wish to thank all the exhibitors for
their entries and the opportunity to get my hands on their dogs. I have to say
that I feel this breed has deteriorated since I last judged Irish Setters. Some
fronts were far too narrow and hind movement was poor in 60% of exhibits. These
remarks did not in any way apply to my winners. DCC was awarded to Astrazone
Special Brew JW Sh CM. Which gives him his title. I was pleased to see him
awarded BIS. by the refereed. My RCC winner was Glencarron Macduff Sh CM. He
eventually finished the day having been awarded RBIS by the referee. My BPD was
Heathclare Music Mans Magic. MPD. (14). 1. Rose-Hay, Quinn and McNamara’s,
Cataluna Regency Rake. A lovely pup. Excellent head and grand forehand assembly.
Well placed shoulders. Reachy neck, well ribbed up and good body for age. Well
assembled hindquarters. Won this class on his sound movement. 2. Mitcell’s,
Dalwen Step on the Gas. Another youngster maturing nicely. Lovely head and lay
of shoulder giving a lengthy neck. Deep in brisket and well covered loins. Well
angulated hindquarters and good balance on the move. 3. Magee’s, Kirkavagh
Tolomeo at Jonromac. This one was very much a baby with the brightest of
futures. Excellent head, grand shoulder placement and a lovely body, both for
spring of rib and depth. Nicely assembled rear and well off for bone. Not the
maturity of first and second. PD. (10). 1. Streeter’s, Heathclare Music Mans
Magic. BPD. Grand head and excellent length of neck running into super shoulder
placement. Well ribbed up and deep in body. Strong coupling and well angulated
hindquarters. Good short rear pasterns. Moved very well. 2. Prangles. Heathclare
Chance of Magic. Excellent pup. Super head and forehand. Well constructed
throughout. Deep body and substantial hindquarters. Lovely to see on the move.
Not quite the balance of winner. 3. Willis’s, Jacwilins Willoughby. Lovely head
and neck length. Well bodied and grand hindquarters. Hocks well let down. Moved
out really well. Just needs to tighten up to beat the best. VD. (11). This was a
lovely class to judge and I was splitting hairs to find my winners. 1. Rork’s,
Seatamarisk Wayfarer at Zakhan. An upstanding dog of substance. Lovely shaped
skull and reachy neck. Straight front and good forehand assembly. Very deep in
brisket and well sprung ribbing. Well coupled and useful angulation behind. Well
off for bone and lovely feet. 2. Axon’s, Twoacres Kavanagh. Lovely breed type.
Well worked head and good neck length running into excellent shoulder placement.
Deep body and well assembled rear. Moved out well. 3. Rose-Hay and Gaul’s,
Cataluna Nickle n Dime. Very attractive dog. Lovely head, neck and shoulder.
Well bodied and good rear assembly. Good feet and legs. Not quite so positive on
the move. JD. (18). 1. Holehan and North’s, Erinade Starwars. Lovely balance
throughout both moving and on the stack. Lovely head and excellent forehand.
Well ribbed up and deep in back rib. Coupling excellent, he made excellent use
of his hindquarters of second thigh. Best mover here. 2. Wall and Jones’s,
Cilaine Anything Goes to Hazelbeck. Much the same remarks apply here. Good in
shoulder, ribbing and quarters. Just needs to mature on. 3. Nylor and
Morrison’s, Bardonhill Bardolino. Excellent head and shoulders. Needs time as
slightly immature. Showing a lot of promise and moved very well. YD. (18). 1.
Willis’s, Danaway the Lionheart. 2. Roffy and Evans’s, Danaway Lancelot. Two
litter mates. Excellent qualities but different in style. Both have well worked
heads and lovely neck lengths. Grand shoulder placement and plenty of forechest.
Deep bodies and excellent ribbing with excellent angulation behind. Lionheart is
compact and therefore has slightly better balance than Lancelot at this time.
Lancelot is a rangier dog who will take longer to mature but will be well worth
waiting for. 3. Buist and Wylie’s, Clachnahar Alfiemoon. Well headed specimen.
Well constructed forehand with plenty of forechest. Well bodied and coupled
well. A really grand dog but just a little apprehensive, but handler must try to
overcome this as he is such a spectacular mover. MD. (19). 1. Erinade Starwars.
2. Cilcain Anything Goes to Hazelbeck. 3. Heathclare a Chance of Magic. ND.
(23). 1. Erinade Starwars. 2. Bardonhill Bardolino. 3. Heathclare Music Mans
Magic. UGD. (13). 1. Hyslops’, Summergate Chozen. Attractive head. Good neck and
excellent forchest and grand ribbing. Great body depth. Excellent shoulder
placement. Well coupled and well covered loin. Lovely hind angulation with
second thigh. Grand mover. 2. Bardonhill Bardolino. 3. Davis’s, Loskeran Legacy
in Red. Well worked head. Good lay of shoulder. Slightly longer in loin than I
prefer but excellent rear construction. The best of feet and legs. Somewhat
untidy on the move. GD. (17). 1. Sheldon’s, Delsanto Isaac JW. He presents a
lovely picture. Excellent head, neck, forehand, body depth and ribbing. Correct
croup. Strong in hindquarters with second thigh and short rear pasterns.
Movement excellent. 2. Stcokton’s, Kepas Infrared JW. Another with a lovely
head. Excellent shoulder placement. Grand ribbing. Coupling good. Hindquarters
well constructed. Good short rear pasterns. Not quite the length of stride as
winner. 3. Milligan-Bott and Bott’s, Scotlaw Detroit Spinner by Thendara. PGD.
(21). 1. Swainston’s, Gelnvama Sundog JW. Upstanding dog of quality. Excellent
head supported by lovely length of neck. Grand forehand assembly. Plenty of
forechest. Great body depth and well coupled loin. Excellent rear end. Good
short rear pasterns and best of feet and legs. Best mover here. 2. Stockton’s,
Kespas Innuendo. Similar attributes apply here but shorter coupled and not quite
the shoulder placement of the winner. Well off for bone and strong hindquarters.
Movement good. 3. Clithero’s, Coppershell Cosmic Story. Beautiful head and
length of neck. Shoulders ok. Excellent depth of body and coupling good. Well
put together behind but not the shoulder of winner. MidLD. (18). 1. Armstrong’s,
Atron Limited Edition. Good head, neck and straight in front assembly. Well
ribbed up. Useful hind construction. Plenty of second thigh. Short rear
pasterns. The best of feet and legs. Moves really well but just short of his
best coat. 2. Edwards’, Barleydale Lumiere. Well constructed forehand. Good
ribbing and deep body. Moves well. 3. Rose-Hay’s, Cataluna Clever Clogs. Good in
head, neck and shoulder. Coupling ok. Best of feet and legs, would prefer a
little more substance. LD. (22). 1. Bott and Morgan’s, Ember Gene Simmons Sings
Quensha. Lovely balance here. Well worked head and length of neck running into
the best of front assemblies. Well bodied with excellent depth. Plenty of
forechest. Well off for bone. Plenty of second thigh. Very well handled. Thought
he would be my ticket winner but he just needs to finish. 2. Lewis’s,
Dotcomsetter Damas. Similar attributes apply here but not the general balance of
the winner. 3. Muir’s, Grayrigge Ewan by Romarne JW. Lovely picture. Excellent
head not quite the length of neck, but well balanced and very good on the move.
OD. (12). 1. Myer’s, Astrazone Special Brew JW Sh CM. CC and BIS. Excellent head
and shoulder placement. Great body depth with excellent ribbing. Super body
width both fore and aft. Lovely rear assembly with second thigh and short rear
pasterns. His lovely shoulders gave him the chance to reach forward for the
ground and use his rear extension to drive well and move economically. I was
pleased to learn that this win gives him his well deserved title. 2. Laidlaw’s,
Glencarron Macduff Sh CM. RCC nd RBIS. A beautiful dog, slightly less
furnishings than the winner. Super forehand assembly. Well structured body with
depth of rib. Super construction throughout. Good short rear pasterns and lovely
on the move. This dog also has good forward reach and truly drives behind. 3.
Milligan-Bott and Bott’s, Sh Ch. Thendara Don Corleone. Another grand specimen
of this breed. Pushing hard for top awards. Grand neck and shoulders. Lovely
