WINDSOR CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - 2ND JULY 2006

IRISH SETTER - BITCHES

Firstly I would like to thank you for a wonderful entry, so many great dogs, so few red cards!  Presentation and condition was, on the whole, excellent.  Whilst this is not a beauty contest, long nails, bad mouths, dirty coats, distinctly overweight or untrimmed dogs and two cases of entropian I find hard to comprehend.  This shows a lack of respect for both the judge and your dog.

I was also disappointed to come across a bitch in full-season, which I would point out was NOT my CC winner, despite the unfounded speculation in some quarters.  When considering BOB with my co-judge, to be able to hear comments that the bitch must be in season is uncalled for.  This sort of behaviour from a vocal minority is unseemly and does neither them nor our breed any credit.  Other than the bitch’s owner, the only people in a position to comment are the judges who went over her that day.  Neither my co-judge nor the Referee in awarding her BOB spoke of her being in season having gone over her.  Who is to say why the dog was initially so ill at ease?  I can only say that I was pleased that he did eventually settle down and was able to do himself justice under the Referee.

MPB   (4 Entries; 1 Abs)

1st:     WEBB’S Reddins Velvet

Very close decision between 1 & 2.  Sweetest of expressions.  Good neck and shoulder, topline and tailset.  Straight hocks with nice angulation.  Good depth, straight front.  Moved well for one so young and coped well with the heat.

2nd:    O'CONNOR’S Caispern Miss Eyre

Same remarks as 1. Both well presented and could have changed places on another day.  Not so positive on the move as 1 but it could have been the heat.

3rd:     REES & JONES’ Tagamago's Galaxy

PB      (15; 4)

Super class of puppies, very close decisions.
1st:      CHORLEY-NEWTON & CHORLEY’S Outfoxed By Kerryfair

What a sweetie; loved this young lady, just into Puppy.  Beautiful head and expression.  Reachy neck, well-laid shoulder, good topline and tailset.  Firm quarters, well-angulated stifle.  Good depth of chest, straight front and tidy feet.  Coped well with the heat, well presented.  Could take her home - a bright future.  BPIB

2nd:    JOWSEY’S Kupolas Kandy Pops

Larger bitch than my winner, but well deserved her 2nd place.  Lovely expression, melting eyes.  Good neck and shoulder, topline and tailset.  Firm quarters, well-angulated stifle, and neat tidy feet.  Deep chest, straight front, moved well and again well presented.  I see she is out of my open Bitch winner.

3rd:     BUDGELL’S Choakfords Megan with Robbielene

JB       (20; 4)

Another super class with close decisions

1st:     BOTT’S Bardonhill Cutie

And she really is!  Striking outline, loved her head and expression.  Good neck, shoulders, topline and tailset.  Strong quarters, well-angulated stifle.  Deep chest, straight front and tight feet.  Moved well.  Beautifully handled and presented.

2nd:    PIKE’S Redclyst Glenury Scotia

A little heavier than my winner, but well proportioned.  Sweet expression, good neck, shoulders, topline and tailset.  Strong quarters, well-angulated stifle and straight hocks and front with good feet.  Moved well.  Nice to see you back in the swing.

3rd:     MORGAN’S Kerrsienna A Paige in History for Deaconara (Imp)

GB      (11; 2)
1st:      MCLARNON’S Northamber Baccarat Via Kerryfair JW

My CC winner and BOB.  What a girl!  Hove only seen this young lady once and she was then a puppy and I loved her; she’s turned into a real beauty.  Fantastic head, melting expression and eyes to die for.  Excels in all departments.  Reachy neck and well-laid shoulder.  Gently sloping topline, well set-on tail, strong quarters with a well-angulated stifle and neat, tidy feet.  Well-sprung ribs, a straight front and plenty of forechest (something lacking in many dogs).  In excellent coat and condition and well presented, she moved so well in the terrible heat.  Well done and good luck in what must be a most promising future.

2nd:     HILLOCKS’ Jonola Liberty X JW

Another super bitch from this kennel, close up to my winner.  Soft expression.  Good neck and shoulder, topline and tailset.  Strong quarters, straight hocks and neat feet.  Not so positive on her movement but that could have been the heat.  Good coat and condition.
