WELKS
SETTER-IRISH
Quite a daunting challenge to be faced with such a large entry with minimum
absentees and quality of the highest standard upon going through the breed. I
must thank all the exhibitors for the entry and for the generous way in which
the awards were accepted but what struck me most was the presentation and
cleanliness of exhibits. Hands were as clean after judging as before I started.
Thank you all for the great compliment. May I first say that I found a number of
exhibits soft in condition and lacking muscle tone which one would not expect in
a Gundog who should be able to work timeless when covering the ground. Shoulders
may have looked ok when stacked but hands on found several lacking in layback,
thus not producing clean lines all through.
MPD. (6). 1. Cuddy’s, Balbriggan Royal Rebel. Good puppy carrying enough bone.
Level topline on the move. When he settled will be nice. 2. Barry’s, Jonola
Stardom at Lindalloch. Another nice one. Good head and eye. Covered the ground
well. 3. Hemming’s, Orlanset Highly Spirited.
PD. (8). 1. Barker-Bell’s, Balintyne Take a Chance On Me. Although not quite as
forward as some he has a lovely outlook with class. Good forehand, legs and
feet. Will make a lovely dog in the future. BP. 3. Willis’s, Danaway the
Lionheart.
JD. (23). 1. Martin’s, Silvagem First Edition. Has a certain something which
draws you to him. Excellent head and eye with a good layback of shoulder. Kept
his topline on the move which was very positive. One to watch. 2. Milligan-Bott
and Bott’s, Scotselaw Detroit Spinner by Thendara. Close up but giving away a
lot of age. Very stylish. Balanced all through and also sound. 3. Drinkwater’s,
Brabrook Classic Quest.
YD. (18). 1. Martin’s, Silvagem First Edition. Headed a quality class so had to
be good to win here. Good head, eye and colour. Covered his ground with ease and
was sound. 2. Sheldon’s, Delsanto Isaac JW. Strong dog with a lot to like about
him. Has balance and good sweep of stifle. 3. Kniveton’s, Burrenmist Hot Shot at
Orstone JW.
GD. (19). 1. Dingle and Limpus’s, Karidell Light my Fire. Has quality and has a
lot about him which attracts you. Very sound but at an awkward age in the breed.
Given the autumn he can Ligh a few Fires. 2. Hemmings’, Orlanset Smooth
Operator. Grand head and eye with good forehand. I liked his tail carriage
particularly. 3. Swainston’s, Glenvarna Sundog JW.
PGD. (24). 1. Lorrimer’s, Danaway Destiny. Super headpiece and a true Irish
expression. Put down so well and when asked to go he covered his ground with
drive and purpose off a strong backend. 2. Cordon’s, Covarney Cheney. Another
stylish dog with presence. Held himself together on the move but the winner had
edge in feet. 3. Rose-Hay’s, Cataluna Clever Clogs.
LD. (21). 1. Spence’s, Springle Nereus JW Sh CM. The more I looked at this dog
the more he filled my eye. A lovely dog from any angle having a masive head
without any coarseness. Very balanced and put it all together on the move. Tail
carried right and used with purpose. RCC. 2. Meadows’, Gwendariff Moet Et
Chandon. Another lovely dog who pulled out all the stops and needed to in this
very hot class. Full brother to CC winner and I am confident he will get his
crown. One has to judge on the day. 3. Gregson’s, Coppersheen Chaconne.
OD. (12). 1. Ritchie’s, Sh Ch/Ir Gwendariff Dom Perignon JW. Headed a beautiful
class of quality dogs and difficult to see a fault in him. Looks at you right
with good expression. Good construction with lay back of shoulders which are
correct. A lovely picture on the move. A grand Irish. CC and BOB. 2. Shepherd’s,
Brackenfield Quadrant Sh CM. Really looked well on the day and is so much Irish
all over. Covered the ground with purpose. A very nice dog. 3. Lorrimer’s, Sh
Ch. Karidell Connoisseur.
MPB. (11). 1. Chorley-Newton and Chorley’s, Outfoxed By Kerryfair. A lovely baby
and you can already see a future for him. Has a lot of character and class.
Should go on to have a star studded future. 2. Powis’s, Amberwave Blush. More
forward than the winner. Has a very good front and is nice all through. 3.
Barry’s, Jonoca Little Star at Lindalloch.
PB. (14). 1. Brown’s, Shandwick Irresistable at Tifosi. A good type with a lot
to like about her. Comes to you right on good legs and feet. 2. Curtis’s,
Wyldfire Colleen. Caught my eye for her general overall style and soundness. 3.
Chorley-Newton and Chorley’s, Outfoxed by Kerryfair.
JB. (17). 1. Mugford’s, Lynwood Theme Song. By the same sire as Puppy and has
many of the same attributes. Has style on the move. Is very feminine in outlook.
2. Drinkwater’s, Ronzalda Esmeralda.
YB. (12). 1. Henson’s, Withersdale First Lady for Tatsbro JW. A nice feminine
outlook to her. Good colour and tailset right. 2. Warner’s, Strathmead
Snowbunting JW. Close up and has an air of elegance. Moved well and with
purpose. 3. Crocker and Hammick’s, Brabrook Fantasy Believer with Riverbrue.
GB. (25). 1. Hirons’, Loskeran Larch. Much the same age as Grad dog and again an
awkward age in the breed. However the more I saw her, the more I liked her.
Could breed something nice. 2. Cordron’s, Covarney Miss B Havin. Put in a good
show and is nice. Just felt winner had a bit more work in her head. 3.
Douthwaite and Wharfe’s, Gracewood True Magic JW.
PGB. (25). 1. Condron and King’s, Brenrue Candice. A particularly good head and
expression here, with plenty of work in it. Level top which she carried well on
the move. Sound. 2. Pickersgill’s, Barleydale Lulu with Maolruadhan. Presented
lovely and looked good on the day. Could have carried and used her tail better
on the move. Nonetheless one I liked. 3. Bayne’s, Corranroo Starlight Dancer.
LB. (20). 1. Milligan-Bott and Bott’s, Lunaline Lady Madonna by Thendara. An
outstanding bitch from all angles. Beautiful head piece with work in brow. Good
in her shoulder with layback. On the move looked so right and covered her groud
with effortless stride. Pleased to award her the CC her third I understand. 2.
Sones’s, Withersdale Ivy. Another effortless bitch of the highest quality in one
of the hottest classess of the day. Much the same remarks apply. Depth of flew
seperated. 3. Lennox’s, Brackenfield Candytuft JW.
OB. (13). 1. Ritchie’s, Sh Ch/Ir S Gwendariff Pop my Cock. Litter sister to Dog
CC winner and much the same remarks apply. So unlucky to meet Limit winner who
was bang on form. Has a well deserved title. Sound as a bell. RCC. 2. Limpus’s,
Sh Ch. Shenanagin That’s It To Kardidell. You can hardly believe she is now 10
years old. In such hot company this told a bit, but she scored so many points
for her wonderful type and soundness, that she had to come up into second place.
Another truly good bitch with, I note, similar breeding to CC winner., A joy to
judge. 3. Gardner’s, Int/Ger Ch. Carnbargus Contentment.
