DRIFFIELD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 2003

Irish Setters

I enjoyed judging but this was tinged with sadness as we do not have any Irish of our own to show now, the beauty of the breed is a pleasure to behold, however, I did find many dogs with flat feet, some incorrect bites and many were changing coat. I was spoilt for choice in the MPD & PGB classes, which I felt were the most challenging of the day. Movement was I feel marred by the high wind and flapping tent which clearly upset some exhibits, the quality of the class winners was gratifying and the upper classes had such good dogs to go over thank you for bringing them under me.

MINOR PUPPY Dog (10 ,0 abs)

1 Condron’s  Covarney Charlston

Strong class of youngsters this boy is mature and looking more the part than his equally sound rivals and just had to have the class today.  He was obviously enjoying his outing and a little bouncy as a young puppy should be, good outline and coat moved steadily when settled. BPD

2 Richardson ’s  Kirkavagh Stravinsky

Just a baby but sound and true, good head and reach of neck clean shoulder, well ribbed back has a good topline and turn of stifle he moved very well

3 Barker Bell ’s Balintyne Home Lovin’ Man

I liked his outline and head he is only just out and still very much the baby of the three

PUPPY Dog (9,0 abs)

1 Lewis’ Dotcomsetter Damas

Headed a trio of pups also shown in the very strong MP class where it was no disgrace to be Reserve. Good outline neck and front good feet good shape to quarters short from hock to heel

2 McVey Lochfrae Ralph Lauren

Nice puppy in outline that did not get his act together in previous class, good coupling, loved his head.

3        Holley’s  Danaway Discreet

Another happy pup that was obviously having a good time! Good angulation  best of heads already good in topline with excellent tail set

JUNIOR Dog (6,1 abs)

1 Edwards Barleydale Lumiere

Beautifully presented good head neck clean lines kept topline on the move should have a good future ahead

2 Swainston’s Glenvarna Tiberius

Not the substance of 1 but all to like good depth, moved steadily

3 Williamson’s Corricas Oscar

Looked the baby of the three and was out of coat otherwise good especially in rear end, he moved well when settled

SPECIAL YEARLING Dog (13, 1 abs)

1 Penny’s Barnellin Alchemist

Sound moving medium sized youngster with good head and eye good front and rear construction correct tail set, not glamorous but sound and true moved very well

2 Carter’s Coppersbrook The Warrior

Loved this dog when stacked just threw the class away on movement which I was really unable to assess Good outline neck and shoulder nice over loin and croup to tail strong quarters and good second thigh
