Irish Setters

I was pleased with my entry overall but would comment that in general feet could be improved and what has happened to oval skulls and the proportions of the head as required by the breed standard?   I also noted that croups are getting worse with otherwise pleasing exhibits with steep croups totally spoiling the outline standing and on the move. On a lighter note I am so glad that shade was provided throughout the day for exhibits and exhibitors as it was an extremely hot day and I was very relieved when I managed to get in the shade! Thank you to the committee & my Stewards for looking after me so well.

Dogs

MP (10,2)

1.        Chorley –Newton & Chorley’s Kerryfair Back in the Red  - lovely baby quite mature in some ways but still has plenty of scope.  Well off for bone, tight feet, correct topline, rich dark coat of good texture and lovely head. Moved steadily for one so young especially as he only just made the class!

2.        Davies Lochfrae Aviator– Similar remarks apply, pleasing in head with soft expression, good bone and depth of chest, strong hindquarters and good over croup moved very well.

3.        Holley & Cheney’s Gwendariff Pop the Question

P (5,1)

1         Milligan-Bott & Bott’s Thendara Kramer -  Mature boy with ample bone and substance, masculine head with soft expression, low earset, strong topline with good angulation fore and aft, super coat and condition, moved well. BPD

2         Danaway Tobias  - Very nice type, taller and less mature than 1 but pleasing in head and outline. In good coat and moved steadily .

3         Tuite’s Porschet Warm Welcome

J (5)

  1. Naylor & Morrison’s Anlory Bonarda–.  This boy excels in outline although he is a little strong in  head for me but still a high quality youngster. Good conformation all through which showed in his sound driving movement. Lovely rich dark coat.

2.        Burke’s Tiroen Trailblazer to Gregaclare – Close up to 1 and I preferred his head which is masculine yet refined , again a well made boy with a gleaming dark coat, covering the ground well on the move.

3.        Danks-Kemish Tiroen Time after Time for Alolfran

Y  (8)

1.       Danks-Kemish Tiroen Time after Time for Alolfran – Litter brother to my 2nd in Jun and very similar, lovely head and good angulation , good  spring of rib, sound animated movement, would just like a slightly better finish over the croup.

2.        Lawrence’s McConkeys Kilwillie – Not as mature as 1 but has a handsome head, firm topline, good angulation and moved well.

3.         Drinkwater’s Brabrook Shochaloza

G  (6,1)

1         Mugford’s Lynwood Field of Dreams JW –  Loved this youngster, classic head  correct gently sloping topline, good depth of chest and front angulation, strong hindquarters, moved well when settled.  Super coat and condition.

2         Barker-Bell’s Balintyne Chances Are - Another lovely type, handsome head,  good outline and tailset , good bone and angulation, just needs a bit more feathering, moved well.

3         Wall & Jones Cilcain Anything Goes to Hazelbeck.

PG  (10,2)

1         Sheldon’s Delsanto Isaac JW.  Loved his rugged type and correct physique, lovely head and topline and moving so well (especially as it was getting hotter), just needs more finish for top honours.

2         Weller & Spencer’s Strathmead Snow Leopard – slightly taller and rangier than one but still a lovely  type, plenty of work in head and a flowing topline and again did not disappoint on the move

3         Box’s Fernstart Irish Red

L (10,2)

1         Burke’s Clachnahar Ami Pierrot JW – Just my type in head and overall size and construction he performed so well especially in the heat and just was so showy and “I’m here” On the day could not be ignored in this strong class and in the challenge. My notes say “full of quality” and that is what he has from tip of his nose to tail,  it all fits together with no lumps or bumps and of course finished off with a glorious coat.  I was pleased to award him RCC.

2         Smith’s Caskeys Checkmate- Another lovely dog who was presented beautifully and performed well. Loved his head and expression and outline, good front and strong hindquarters was just unlucky to meet 1 on such top form.

3         Rehn’s Don’t Blame Me.

O (7,1)

1         Milligan-Bott & Bott’s Sh Ch Thendara Don Corleone – What can I say, this dog just gets better!  I expected him to suffer in the heat as he is 8 years old but no he is a trooper and the heat didn’t stop him moving with the panache we have all come to know. He is a great showman as well as being a superb example of the breed.  He has that gently flowing topline, (no falling off at the croup here or upright front).  Then he moves and you can see why he is difficult to fault! The reach in front and aft is perfect and of course he is always presented in the most beautifully attended coat which completes the picture, I wish he were mine.  CC & BOB and short listed in the group

2         Lauwers Sumaric Shadow of Mr Jingles –  Son of my winner and so many of the same remarks apply, his head was just not quiet as good for me as my CC or RCC winner but having said that it is still a far more typy head than some of those present today.  He got this placing on overall construction and movement and was very close up for RCC   A worthy recent UK SH CH.

3          Smith’s Reddins Pause at Magiconkers

Bitches

MP (10,2)

Three very lovely puppies headed this class

1         Davie’s Lochfrae Affinity –Won this class on her steady movement.  Well made baby

with a very pretty head ,clean outline and gleaming dark coat, very promising. BP

2         Mugford’s Lynwood Started with a kiss – Very close decision. Another well made puppy with a

well shaped head and soft expression , good bone and moving well just preferred the head of my        winner.

3         Waterton’s  Lynwood Kissed by an Angel at Sandstream.

P (11,1)

1         Wilkins Margretwoods Buzzy Bee- Pretty bitch of lovely type, good angulation,

correct topline and tailset, moved true and steadily for one so young

2         Hopewell’s Davset Its Now Or Never_ Moved really well to gain this place. Well made throughout and pleasing in head, just not quiet as mature as 1.

3         Naylor & Morrison’s Bardonhill Leaping Water over Anlory

J  (9)

1         Butler-Holley’s Shandwick Inspiration – Lovley  youngster with the a well shaped head with plenty of work in it and soft expression.  Arched neck into firm topline , good ribcage, angulation and coat colour.  Sound stylish mover.

2         Smith’s Reddins Holly. - another good youngster,  very pretty head ,  plenty  of substance and bone but elegant in outline, rich coloured coat, moved well.

3     Godart’s Girly Girl of Mcbirdy

Y  (15,3)

1         Holley’s Danaway Briana of Wynjill JW - Racy elegant youngster with a striking outline         Feminine head of correct proportions and soft wistful expression., gleaming topcoat but just needs a bit more feathering  to complete the picture, moved true.

2          Mortimer & Condron’s Covarney Coco JW –  Feminine bitch with lots to like about her, well off for bone and moved well, just preferred the head of my winner

3         Hinslea’s Northamber Causin a Riot JW.

G  (12,3)

1         Heron’s Caskeys Happy Hour – Well made girl with clean outline and pretty head, in good coat and although she moved OK in the class she had to be withdrawn from the challenge as she was slightly lame which was a pity as her overall type appealed to me.

2         Mugford’s Lynwood Follow Your Dreams  JW-  Judgded this girl as a youngster and gave her 1st , she is still so pretty and sound with that lovely elegant outline and moving well just lacks the maturity of 1 at present

3         Roberts Lynwood Theme Song for Polmennor

PG  (13,2)

This was a difficult decision as I really like my first three and they all did well under me last time I judged. Such a shame they are all in the same class now!.

1         Nevitt’s Romarne Jessica- I loved her last time I judged her but with that bit of extra maturity and on sparkling form, she really wowed me today.  Classic head with true Irish expression, low set ears, strong arched neck ,good layback of shoulder and  front angulation, firm gently sloping topline  and strong well angulated quarters., moved  soundly and with animation (especially as the temperature was soaring). I awarded her mother RCC in 2000 (again a really hot day at this venue) and  many of those attributes have been passed down, I was delighted to go one better and award her the CC.

2         Box’s Fernstart Irish Rhapsody – This was the same order of placing as last time and this girl has also matured nicely since then. Most feminine bitch of lovely type, again well made and

moving well, So unlucky to meet 1 on such form today

        3     Wilkins Margaretwoods Kitty Cat

L (12)

1          Naylor & Morrisons Anlory Valpolicella JW  – This bitch scores in topline, soundness and stylish movement and she was in the best coat I have ever seen her with.  I have always liked her and placed her well before but she always lacked a bit of tummy feathering. Today she had it and I was pleased to award her RCC

2          Pollards Grayrigge Maeve JW – close decision! Another lovely girl who scores in topline , soundness and  stylish movement and was probably more my preference in head than 1 but felt she just needed a bit more feathering to complete the picture.

3          Weller’s Bamberella Freedom

O  (2)

1         Mugford’s  Sh Ch Lynwood Sealed with a Kiss JW -  A worthy Champion and as usual from this kennel very much the type I like.  I liked both of these sisters and just found that 1 had the feathering to complete the picture. They both exude quality are sound and have the prettiest heads I hope 2 will gain her title as well as she is certainly worthy of it when in coat.  Two very lovely bitches of which their breeder should be proud.

2         Waterton’s Lynwood Strands of Silk at Sandstream JW ShCM
