It is Easter and so, in my opening stanza,
After the recent disaster when we lost to the Hammers,
Though Emanuel Pogatetz is so sadly suspended,
The much-dreamed-of start really went to the letter,
It was young Adam Johnson whom we really must thank,
With the Hornets resigned to the much dreaded drop,
The fans were left speechless and hands were then wrung,
First Adam Johnson showed his mazy skill,
As Team Captain George was immediately saluted,
In time added on the Boro got really lucky,
So, with a start simply perfect and a glorious goal,
----------
But Boro were uncertain and almost paid a great price,
There came for the Boro some nerve-twitching times,
Viduka’s great quality was again ratified,
With Johnson, again, very heavily involved,
Then Watford did suffer even further great pain,
With the visitors’ rearguard standing there almost static,
And, so happily ended on this day simply glorious,
These three points should mean that we’re totally secure,
Dare I ask of the Boro a real Eggstravaganza?
In the warmest and glorious holiday sun,
Let us all now enjoy today’s great feast of fun.
There is no doubt at all what each Boro fan clamours,
That’s a bag full of goals and good value for money,
And all brought about by the kind Easter Bunny.
I feel that the Boro won’t be over-extended,
Chris Riggott is back alongside big Robert Huth,
And they, I’ve no doubt, will remain resolute.
In fact, to be honest, things could not have gone better,
A mere five short minutes was all that it took,
For the opening goal from the big Aussie Duke.
As he brilliantly fled with the ball down the flank,
His pin-pointed cross: Downing’s great cushioned ball,
Then Viduka increased his quite impressive haul.
The ambitions of the Boro then appeared to flop,
And, of course, they then paid for this dangerous folly,
Damien Francis soon scored with a quite stunning volley.
As, by the Hornets, we had suddenly been stung,
If an almighty kick is what Boro then needed,
Then the signs of great danger were so speedily heeded.
And then Captain Boateng moved in for the kill,
To start once again the Boro’s resurrection,
With the help of Chris Riggott’s quite massive deflection.
Goalkeeper Ben Foster stood there totally rooted,
Could this be the beginning of the long-hoped-for rout,
Of Watford: surely down now and I’d say almost out?
As Hornets again broke, remaining so plucky,
The fear could be felt inside Boro’s Riverside,
But Rinaldi just managed to steer it well wide.
The Boro enjoyed almost total control,
Though it’s not been too hard in the warm Easter sun,
The fact still remains that the job’s just half done.
There is one thing that’s awfully hard to conceal,
This game does have the familiar ‘Season’s End’ feel,
Then, with Hornet’s heads under the relegation cloud,
Xavier rallied the faithful and good Boro crowd.
When Steve Kabba missed, not just once but twice,
And how did the Yak fail when just ten yards out,
To put a swift end to his recent goal drought?
When Robert Huth committed the most serious of crimes,
To allow Hornets’ efforts to greatly increase,
And Kabba should have then made the score two-apiece.
Leaving Hornets’ Ben Johnson as if crucified,
Outnumbered – and greatly – was big Mark, and yet,
He still lashed one home, almost breaking the net.
All danger from Watford has now, surely, dissolved,
“The game is now over,” is then what we all said,
Despite their great fight we’ve now knocked ‘em stone dead.
As Boro once more swarmed and then scored again,
With little more now than ten minutes to go,
Boro’s Brazilian ‘Rocky’ got the last knockout blow.
Rochemback’s finish was most certainly emphatic,
Viduka’s great skill also proved far too much,
And ‘The Rock’ did the rest with the deftest of touch.
A game that saw Boro impressively victorious,
But why can’t they make these things more of a habit,
And not simply wait for the kind Easter Rabbit?
But what we now need is a quick signature,
The fans care not a jot just how much filthy lucre,
Let us now nail him down: I mean big Mark Viduka.
