Our day on the Chardonnet was rather unique but not just because we got struck by lightning. The Forbes arete definitely deserves it's reputation as an alpine 'classic'. The climbing was mixed, varied and continuously interesting.

We did not get the weather we were expecting and consequently there was more anxiety, tension and excitement than we really wanted. I'm sure that in good conditions our climb would have been much more enjoyable. It was still a privilege to be up there and I recommend it.

Noone would ever choose to be struck by lightning, but having been hit and left unscathed I'm perfectly happy to have had the experience. It's a good one to keep up my sleeve when swapping stories over the dinner table.
