The most notable of these occasions are the Chigwell Show, usually at the end of August, and a spectacular firework display on or around November 5th. These events are always very popular and raise money for charities. The Club is housed in Chigwell Hall, which was built in 1876. It was commissioned by Alfred Savill and built by Norman Shaw. Alfred Savill founded Savill’s Estate Agency. Alfred's brother Walter had a joint enterprise with Norman Shaw which is still known as the Shaw Savill Shipping Line. After Mr. Savill died in 1905, Chigwell Hall was purchased by Mr. Walter Waugh and remained in his family until 1938, when it was purchased by the Metropolitan Police. |
