Here's an email from Matt Round of Bone Idle Music, Guilford, Surrey, after receiving his: "Hi Geoff, the pickup is perfect, thanks a million. "...by the way Here's a telephone quote from Ian Tipping of Bedford: "I put it on my bass and the sound was just terrific!" Another
email from Christian Häfliger from
Lichtershalten
"Yesterday I had a lesson with my bass-teacher and I showed him my (your) pickup. He was very impressed (he is a professional bass player). So I need another one." Kind regards, Chris" Here's one from Royston Edwards from Austwick, North Yorkshire: "The pickup sounds better each
time I play, so all the fine adjustments seem to be paying off." Very best wishes, Roy." Andy Scott of Bucks... ..."the side mount is much
neater and avoiding those horrible metal clips is
a good thing too. I mostly use the setup when playing in Church
and it is particularly
pleasing being in control (no microphones to bump). The sound guys are
also very pleased too as it makes their life easier *and* they get a
decent level from me with sufficient isolation from the brass, etc. Another detailed one from Steve Hughes from South Wales: "...I also had to try different
EQ settings to get the best result, but it was worth it! A phone call from Peter Brown from Ashbrooke, Sunderland: "Thanks for the pickup Geoff! I've just got back from a two week gig with it down south and the pickup worked just great.." "...straight in to the amp - no preamp - terrific!" Incidentally, it's a great shame that this guy hadn't the decency to actually pay for his, since he is clearly so delighted isn't it? This guy spoiled the facility to send before receiving or clearing cheques - a great shame...[Geoff] "I am far from disappointed, it
works great on not the most Another couple from Phill Morley of "Wet Paint": "Pickup came today and it's great. We fitted on in a matter of seconds and played it through a bass amp I have here. Yeh we are real pleased with the pickup. It works great, I'm sure a lot of folks down this way will be impressed. I'll tell 'em." "Just to say we gigged with the BigWood and it was fantastic. I'll be recommending to as many bass players I know. Thanks, Phill" Here's Carl Baker, an Aussie Rockabilly bassist newly in Swindon, a former Underwood user: "Yeh, it's got plenty of volume and no feedback. I used to use an Underwood. This is money well spent! Thanks."
Mervyn Manning of North Leeds Music Centre : "Very pleased with the pickup - I've only used it once on a gig, so far, but no problems at all."
"Regards, Merv'." Here's Mark "Grinder" Reeve from Suffolk " 'Said I'd get back with comments on pickup.
In a nutshell, it,s a fine piece
of kit.
What I particularly like about the pick up you sent me is the good
sturdy build quality. Especially the thick bomb
proof wiring.
Little bit of experimentation
with the EQ, plugging into the ACTIVE input on my amp and presto, a nice
faithful sound. I found the minutest of adjustments with the
sensor positioning in the bridge will change the sound
characteristics. Again, trial and error is the way to go ahead with it.
Good reproduction, and plenty
of volume without the cursed feedback!
Already gigged three times, it
gets better each time.
Please pass on my praise if
it's any help, because this is a fine pickup.
Best regards, Mark "Grinder"
Reeve. "
Also, when I replaced Mark's unit after he had a mishap with it... "Hi Geoff. I gotta tell ya, that new pickup is the dog's b******s!" "I'm earning loadsa dosh thanks to your pickup." "Vastly superior in build!"
Now
THAT'S real customer satisfaction... Thanks Grinder! :o) Here's Julian Baker from Hailsham
" Just finished a very successful week
in the band for the show "Gypsy" and used Paul Medina, bassman of Woodsmoor, Stockport when playing with a seventeen piece big band... "In between numbers, I quickly located (its great advantage) the BW in the wing of the bridge on the 'E' side and that solved all the problems and , needless to say, I had a very relaxed evening from then on. For tonight's gig, I was using my Gallien-Krueger combo.
I hope this information has been
useful to you." "...It certainly looks impressive!"
..."I have just returned the Acoustic Image combo to Jon Thorne, my pro bassist friend. I also took along my bass with the Big Wood fitted. He was so impressed with the sound that he is now borrowing the instrument for a month or so to trial it! "
A Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year to you and your family, Geoff
Paul Medina."
Here's Clive Sterl of Swansea...
"Geoff, Kind words from Gordon Serter of the London MU and The Croydon Jazz Orchestra... "Hi Geoff, I said I would contact you after I had gigged the pickup. It worked very well indeed. I didn't really have to make too many adjustments to the positioning. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have to make much adjustment to the eq either, it is virtually flat with just a 5% tweek at the bass end. Normally I use two bass amps and a sub woofer when playing with the big band, and the next gig I have with them is on the 7th. June. I shall be very interested to see how it performs then, but if it is as good as the small band gigs that I have done (with just one amp) with it I shall be extremely happy." ..."Everything worked very well at the large venue." "Congratulations on a very good product. "...thanks to your pickup I have been very, very busy. I have just been recruited ( I think thats the correct expression ) to a very busy Jazz Quintet, and I haven't had time to think or see my home very much. I think you may be interested in a comment from the leader of the group who said "It doesn't sound like an amplified double bass just a double bass but louder" , which, of course is exactly what I should think most people would aspire to. Regards, Gordon Serter." Here's Gordon from the BBC website. Gordon has most generously consented to be contacted on all things bass: "Yes I should be delighted to help any aspiring bass players further their interest and activities so please feel free to give out my Email address" Click on his photo for valuable advice if you need it. ...from Greg Cahill of SPECIAL CONSENSUS, ILLINOIS and Chairman of the IBMA:
"The pickup is outstanding - it has made all the difference in the world to our sound and we are all anxious to hear his own bass with the pickup when we get home." from Tres Nugent Greg's bassist: "Shoot! Geoff! It sounds Great...!" from Justin Carbone Greg's guitarist: "Geoff, those bass transducers of yours are just brilliant!" Thanks guys... :O) From Mick Danby a Durham bass and music teacher ... "I've road tested the pickup now through various
combinations and it Click on the photo below to see Mick's interesting tuition / piano tuning website. ...from Geoff Gosling of Watford, Hertfordshire "Just to let you know I took delivery of my pickup on Saturday, what great delivery! As your note states it does indeed fit in seconds and it plays like a beauty ! Spent an hour or two putting it through its paces yesterday and the pickup is excellent. Can’t wait to finish work and play some more!! Thanks very much for the first rate service, fitting guide and communication given from start to finish, I can heartily recommend the Bigwood sound and the Geoff Bowers service !! Many thanks my friend, I’m on the lookout for a second bass over the next few months so I’ll be back for a second pickup shortly !! Regards Geoff." ...from
John Charnock
of "jazz" trio "The transducer fitted in about 2 minutes, although having fitted it once I could probably get that time down to around 20 seconds (could be a new Olympic sport ?) "
"One aspect of the transducer I really like
is that I can leave it fitted to my bass and still use the
instrument acoustically, nothing to get in the way."
"I was a bit concerned that it would need a footswitch to turn off the transducer between numbers but in fact as long as I didn't hit the body of the bass too hard it stayed nice and quiet; also no detectable hum or other background noise." "I could hear what I was playing as could the others; it also meant that my fingers did not have to try too hard. After only 2 gigs I would not be without the Bigwood!" "The good thing about the BigWood is that is makes my Double Bass sound like a Double Bass, and not like some type of electric instrument."
Kind Regards, John C."
...from John Farman of Milton Keynes, playing Bluegrass and Jazz (Trad & standards) "Hello Geoff. The pick up arrived safely - many thanks. First impressions are very favourable - beautifully put together and very easy to fit. Sounds good too, and I'm looking forward to putting it through it's paces over the coming months. Best regards, John.
PS. I have a Fishman
B-100 available very cheaply if you know any one who wants one!" ...from Martin Ashford 'Talking to someone about pickups the other day, I remembered that I don’t think I ever gave you any feedback on my son’s progress since buying this from you more than a year ago.. Basically, the pickup has been great. As you say, fitting it couldn’t be any easier which is handy because he has access to a couple of different instruments in different venues so tends to move the pickup to wherever he’s playing rather than having to lug an instrument around everywhere. ...So should be another order for you from Marlow in the near future, hopefully! Thanks again and I hope your business is thriving. Martin Ashford" ...and Andrew Freeman "Geoff: Just to
let you know my daughter used her double bass with your pickup
at her youth jazz orchestra this weekend. It performed
perfectly. Thanks once again. Andrew Freeman." Here's Laurel Swift from London... "Hi
Geoff, Really sorry I've been so slow coming back to you - especially
as the pick up is so brill! Thanks loads for getting it to me in
time, and I would like to say that I've never sound-checked so
quickly in my life! Great sound, it seemed to be consistent
across the range and we were all really happy (the rest of
the band was delighted to be able to hear the bass clearly for a
change too). Thanks very much and well done! I shall certainly
be recommending you! Laurel." You can buy instantly using Paypal (click BUY NOW the icon), or call Geoff on 0115 912 00 80 or email below... [ BANJOs ] [ MANDOLINS ] [GUITARS ] [ DOBRO ] [ VIOLINS ] [ BAND EQUIPMENT ] [ BASS ] Email for sales, exchange and hire Updated 11/6/08 |
