Tributes to Mark Tindle who
tragically passed
away 11/9/04...
We are most grateful to Denny Plowman, Five Go Off band-member and Marks long-time friend, for this timely photo of Mark. Denny writes "...his
talents and the enormous respect in which he was held by so many people.
When one is a close friend of someone one tends not to see all the other
aspects of their life but you have made it clear. I attach a photo of Mark
that you might want to include on the web page. Here are more pictures of the band over the years from Denny...
"I have remarkably few decent
photos of him (and the band generally) for all the years we have been
together. 'Cheesy' is a publicity shot we had done when we were a comedy
folk band - hard to put a date to it now but maybe 1984. 'fiddle' is
another publicity shot of the FGO big band c.1998?, 'studio' was taken
whilst recording FGO's first CD and 'rikki' reminds us that Mark was a
mean rock & roller as well. "
Here's a tribute from Greg Cahill:
From Frank and Chris Williams... From Ed Marchewicz of Five Go Off... It's clear that all who
knew an worked with Mark are aware of what an exceptional, multi talented,
warm and generous person he was. I have known Mark for 30 years and played
with him for the last 20 in various ensembles including 5 Go Off for the
last 14 years. Mark was a close friend who I shall miss very much.
Thanks again for putting together your worthy tribute to Mark.
From Dave Proctor... ‘Mark and I played in 5 Go Off in the late 70’s and through the 80’s, and we were both heavily involved with Newcastle Arms and Narrowboat Folk Clubs.
Mark’s knowledge and enthusiasm brought many great American acts to the Narrowboat and offshoot venues in Nottingham– Bill Clifton, Red Rector, Art Stamper, Bill Keith, Tony Trischka, Peter Rowan, Jim Rooney - to name just a few.
We both shared a love of American music – and an important bond was forged between us when we both visited Augusta Festival in West Virginia in 1988, to learn more about old time music. It was there I started to play old time fiddle, which, with Mark’s encouragement, took me off in so many new directions.
I can never thank you enough Mark – you were a great influence and a good friend and I will miss you.
