This Page is just a brief history with some of the scenes of Norwich during the 1939 - 1945 Second World War.
Norwich was selected as a target by the Germans because of its ' Beauty and its unique historic
interest ' and was the first place of any size to be bombed in the U.K.

The following scenes are of the damaged left after the Blitz Raid on Norwich on the nights of the 27/28 & 29/30 of April 1942.
These two nights were the worst nights of the war for Norwich, on the Monday night 185 bombs were dropped killing 162 people and injuring 600, and on the Wednesday night 112 bombs were dropped killing 69 people and injuring 89.

On the 8th of May 1945 War was over in Europe and the scenes in The Market Place in Norwich as people began to celebrate the end of the War in Europe.
