The Excelsior Laundry

The Excelsior Laundry was on Occupation Lane and was owned by Samuel Ward. The horse drawn wagons would collect and deliver laundry from the larger houses in Pudsey. The inside of the laundry was kept spotlessly clean. The workers used gas powered irons.

The poorer people of Pudsey would wash their clothes in a barrel like tub and used a dolly peg to agitate them in water an soap. They would iron using a flat iron which would first have to be heated on the fire or stove.
