| Hi I am the
'Guvnor'. I have always loved all forms of Motorsport trying my hand at Formula Ford and Mini 7 racing in the 70's and 80's until family commitments put paid to my activities. In 1997 I attended an indoor corporate karting event at Reading and so began my love affair with endurance kart racing. The following year I put together a team, purchased a new MSR kart and entered the Daytona championship at Milton Keynes, (as Javelin Racing Team #40). I loved every minute of it but I realised that to do well I would need to understand more of the "black art" of setting up a kart. In 1999 I introduced Gary into the team and we decided to compete in the Sandown Championship. We did well that year achieving an overall third. For the next two years we competed in the British EKC championship. I knew it would be a difficult playing with the 'Big Boys' and it was. But we learnt so much. For 2002 I introduced Russell to the team and so our team was now complete. We decided to return to our roots and compete in Paul Bowler's Daytona championship. We have had a brilliant time achieving an overall third in the 2002 winter series and sixth in class in the 2003 summer series. The highlight for me so far has been the second in class we achieved at La Mans 24 Enduro (Alain Prost circuit, France). The whole team was so emotional at the end, it was a great day. Supurb! Thanks to my team for that. My philosophy has always to build the kart to as high a standard as possible. 'To win you must first finish'. I want the Box Tech kart to run as competitively as possible throughout the race without mishaps or things breaking or falling off. I prepare the kart with Gary with this always in mind. Today I have some very good friends in this sport, none more so than my team mates. I am looking forward to 2004 as we have decided to race our ProMax and look forward to the PB Open championship. Bring it on! Richard |
