Guilfest went very smoothly and was one of the best ever for Eden People. It was the busiest Guilfest we have had – usually team get a chance to have lengthy periods of rest between very busy visitor times. We were busy constantly (in varying degrees) from opening 12 noon to 12 or 1am at night. Maybe something to do with our busyness was that were in the Surrey Advertiser Guilfest promotion pullout booklet. Eden People were in the ‘Ten things you must do at Guilfest’ – we were eighth on the list and people came in after reading the piece on us. Weather conditions made it difficult for people to sit anywhere so people were looking for ‘comfy cushions and sofas’ to rest a while. As in previous years we had people visit us who we had met last before, people came on recommendation from others who were not at the festival. We had individuals and groups of people continually returning to us over the three days, relationships built and opportunities for prayer and ‘spiritual chat’ developed.
The Venue We hired a 20x33ft marquee and then added our two pop-up gazebos (3x3mtrs each) to add extra ‘living space’ to the venue. Our position was close to the campsite entrance and to two stages which had its pros and cons. Even with the stage near by (10mtrs!) people were coming in and saying how “peaceful and calm” the venue was. After 2 days setting up we had created a beautiful venue that had red fabric in the roof space and a more open-plan feel than last year. The use of different types of lighting created a ‘warm and heart like’ feel at night. The Juicy bar was again set up in one area, we had 2 TV’s and a video projector for visuals & DVD’s, we had two massage chair mats on sun chairs along with the usual two sofas, garden benches, comfy cushions, low tables, creative materials and soul sites around the venue. We had brown takeaway bags for information/spiritual and wise words/angel and nature cards and our new ‘peace and love’ badges to be taken; everything was for free! Eden Activities:
Eden Creative Expression: Spontaneously visitors began to create pictures and drawings with the materials available. With their art work we created a mini gallery by pegging pictures up over the sides of the marquee for all to see. With this creativity it encouraged people to return bringing along friends mums & dads were able to engage with us whilst children were occupied. Near this we had a new ‘soul site’ called ‘Your Beautiful’ Here people chose a word from a file that ‘connected’ with them like hope, peace, created, unique, loved etc their picture was taken with a digital camera and our photo printer printed the photo off and hung it up in the Eden Guilfest 2007 gallery, this created a talking point, got people to bring friends back, and created the sense that visitors were part of the venue. This year we had a table for people to make prayer beads something that a group called Dekhomai made use of at a mind, body, spirit event. A postcard explaining the colours of beads and their meaning for people to make and carry these beads around with them using the prayers was available. Just outside the venue the creativity flowed as many team members were engaged in face and body painting! Flowers on the cheek seemed to be in demand, then the painting of eyes on eyelids cause quite a stir with people literally running from one end of the site to visit our venue to get ‘painted’ This engaged with many different age groups and as with previous years visitors began to paint each other and then supported the team in painting other visitors! The paints were not abused and there was a community/safe feel to our ‘outside’ area, here spiritual conversations and prayer opportunities were made and taken. WELL THAT’S ALL, HOPE YOU GOT A FEEL OF ‘EDEN PEOPLE @ GUILFEST 2007?
